Taylor Swift is getting married! That is the big news these days. Aur honi bhi chahiye. She’s a mega superstar, bhai. But as much as I enjoyed looking at the pictures and the reactions, there is something about young girls celebrating this news that upsets me. And after a lot of thought, I have figured out why. It’s because when I see bachchas in their 20s celebrating someone’s engagement and saying, “I want what they have”, it concerns me. Why do you want what they have? You should want what she has! Everything she has achieved on her own, without a man by her side or in front of her blocking her view. Instead of wanting “what they have”, there is more to take away from Taylor Swift’s engagement news. Here are a few lessons every girl in her 20s should learn from Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement.

Don’t jump to marry the first boy you love

Love is not always meant to last a lifetime. Sometimes, it’s just a happy time to be cherished later. Taylor Swift has dated many guys, a fact everyone knows thanks to her music. But it is a very good thing that she took the time to date and didn’t succumb to the pressure of “settling down”. She was even in a relationship for six years a long time before Travis came along. So, the lesson here is don’t marry the first guy that you fall in love with. You’re young, you will evolve as a person and so will your choices. Give yourself time and room to grow, bachche.

Taylor Swift will always be Taylor Swift, not Mrs Kelce

Your 20s are supposed to be all about going hard at life. Work hard, party hard, love hard, and break up hard. What your 20s are not meant for is making lifelong commitments. Contrary to what your bua says, duniya ke saare achche ladke khatam nahi ho rahe hain. Men are not a limited commodity. Use your 20s to work hard in your career and make a solid foundation for yourself. Devote all your free time to the hustle, no matter how much your favourite white girl on Instagram gloats about her tradwife life. Taylor Swift worked hard enough to make sure her identity is never tied to a man. If you really like Tay Tay as much as you claim, this is what you should learn from her.

Taylor Swift is complete on her own

There is no room for a “better half” because she isn’t half a person to begin with. Taylor Swift never needed a man to lead a happy, successful life. And you shouldn’t need one either. Make yourself a happy, wholesome individual instead of waiting for a “better half”. Marriage shouldn’t be two halves coming together; it should be two complete individuals coming together.

Give yourself time…even if you must marry your college sweetheart

If he really loves you and wants to be with you, he will wait for you. Travel the world, establish your career, make new friends. Some of it can be with him, but a lot of this should be done without him. You need to see new places and have new experiences on your own without someone else’s perspective clouding yours. All of this needs youthful energy (take it from an old woman), which is why this needs to happen in your 20s. You will, of course, travel and work later in life too but, let’s face it, when you’re managing a team at work or a household, you can’t just switch off and escape.

Waise toh I think girls should not seek male validation, but if you must make a lifetime commitment, marry someone who celebrates you without hesitation or male ego. Like Travis celebrates Taylor. I know I have focused this advice on girls in their 20s, but it won’t hurt the young boys in their 20s to learn a few lessons from Travis Kelce too.
