2023 has been a great year for a lot of people, but not for those of us who had to tolerate some really bad movies. In no particular order, here are all the movies that Team All About Eve thought were the worst of 2023.

1. Animal

My, oh my, where do I even start? Animal made it into the ‘worst movies list’ of three people on the team. The glorification of violence and misogyny in this movie is horrifying. In true Sandeep Reddy Vanga fashion, Animal is also all about a man resorting to violence, physical and sexual abuse, and throwing aspersions on women. The protagonist, Ranvijay, resorts to all kinds of violence in the name of love for his father. What the dude needed was therapy, not a gun!

2. Gadar 2

While a lot of people seemed to have enjoyed the sequel to a much-loved classic, Gadar 2 made it to our hate list too. Despite a nostalgic nod to the original, Gadar 2 was melodrama on a double dose of steroids, not to mention the cringy dialogues and the insane filters, especially on Sakina.

3. The Archies

Well, does this even need an explanation? Everyone on the team who has watched The Archies has hated it. The only good thing about the movie was the fashion. With a cast full of star kids, no one managed to shine; instead, the movie was as robotic, plastic, and fake as it could get.

4. Adipurush

Oh boy, sitting through this ridiculousness was torture of the worst kinds. I love mythological retellings, but Adipurush was just a poor mishmash of Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and god knows what else. The visuals were atrocious and the dialogues could make you gag, like the one where Hanuman goes, “Kapda tere baap ka, tel tere baap ka, aag bhi tere baap ki. Toh jalegi bhi tere baap ki”. Nothing about the entirety of Adipurush was anything like the epic Ramayana, so it takes its well-deserved spot in the worst movies of 2023.

5. Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar

A Luv Ranjan movie that makes sense seems like an impossibility now. His latest outing with Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor was a total letdown. With a whole lot of overacting and a senseless story, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar had almost made it to the top of the ‘worst movies of 2023’ list. But Ranbir Kapoor’s strategic move of signing an even worse film in the same year saved this one a bit.

6. Thank You for Coming

While the subject of this movie is great and can spark a much-needed conversation, its execution leaves much to be desired. With a shoddy script, Thank You for Coming didn’t make it to anyone’s list of movies to watch again. The humour was crass, the actual actors weren’t doing their job, and the influencers weren’t influencing anything.

7. Kuttey

I curse the day I decided to watch Kuttey, because that set the precedent for my year in movies. That is to say, I watched a lot of crappy films this year. Unfortunately, I can’t add them all to this list, but Kuttey deserves a sweet spot on my ‘worst movies of 2023’ list. Kuttey did not work in any way whatsoever. Arjun Kapoor can’t act, so I don’t know why he continues doing so. Tabu and Radhika Madan were great, but so under-utilised. The movie is just an amalgamation of cuss words and violence with no solid story.
