Vir Das’ latest comedy special, titled Landing, is now out on Netflix. Vir Das is one Indian comedian who has managed to make a mark globally and also has three other Netflix specials to his name. Landing is a segment from his Wanted world tour, shot in New York, and the stand-up comedian dives deep into his childhood, his tryst with cancel culture, and how his career almost came to an end. Here’s what we thought of Vir Das: Landing.

Poignant yet funny

Funny is one thing Vir Das does well and Landing is no different. But the second half of the comedy special is funnier than the first half. While the first half of Landing does manage to get a smile or chuckle out of you, the second half will have you holding on to your bellies with laughter. Das covers everything from facing racism to being termed a terrorist in his own country for his special titled Two Indias. His comedy special is relatable to every Indian kid, especially the millennials who grew up in the “Commonwealth Games of child abuse” as Das terms it. In between well-timed, funny relationship stories, Vir Das also throws in some gems like, “Hate is yelled, but love is felt.”

One of the best things about Vir Das is that he doesn’t take himself too seriously. The actor-comedian knows how to laugh at himself and his life. He knows how to engage the audience and how to evoke the reaction he wants from his audience. Das doesn’t just stick to the traditional role of a comedian, which is to make you laugh. He will walk you through a rollercoaster of emotions, some a bit sad, others a bit angry. Through it all, Vir Das starts the comedy special by spreading sand on the stage and ties it together in an emotional, heartfelt ending.
