Produced by Karan Johar, Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri is finally out in theatres. A love saga between Rehaan (Kartik Aaryan) and Rumi (Ananya Panday), the movie’s trailer hinted at a cutesy romcom with witty banter. But is the movie worth watching? Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri movie review: The plot

The movie follows Rumi, a struggling writer and Rehaan, an “A-lister” wedding planner, who stumble upon each other at an airport bookshop. What could have been a meet-cute turns chaotic as they find each other too annoying to be in the same room. But the universe has other plans for them as they end up boarding the same flight to Croatia, where their frustration melts into unexpected intimacy. Over a few days of shared moments, they even fall in love with each other, just like a classic Bollywood romcom.

Rehaan, who’s head over heels for Rumi, proposes to her and is ready to meet her parents. He wants to marry Rumi and live with her in his mansion in the US. But here’s the catch. Rumi’s ailing father won’t shift to the US as he is still attached to his country and his deceased wife. And Rumi refuses to abandon her father. On the other hand, Rehaan won’t return to India as his US home is his mother’s dream house. With this huge conflict, the “Big C” obstructing Rehaan and Rumi’s happily ever after, will they unite or drift apart? On top of that, doubt creeps in as Rumi isn’t convinced if Rehaan is the one for her, because “who falls in love in just ten days?”

Is it even a Dharma movie if it doesn’t have clever, nostalgic callbacks to its iconic films? With familiar songs, famous lines reworked to fit TMMTMTTM, and recreated romantic moments, KJo does what he does best in every film, and it’s still entertaining. To top KJo’s magic, Neena Gupta brings her own effortless charm. She plays Rehaan’s cool mom and stuns in her role throughout. Apart from her amazing acting, Neena ji‘s fashion game is top-notch in the movie, just like in real life.

The movie begins at a boring pace, but it finds its rhythm in the second half. It picks up the humour, which feels more natural, and the jokes land decently. TMMTMTTM also plays well with emotional bits revolving around the bond between parents and kids, again a classic KJo move. With scenic backdrops of Agra and Croatia, the movie will convince you to spend NYE at either one of these places. The film also stars content creator Chandni Bhabhda as Rumi’s sister, and she excels in her role. TMMTMTTM features other notable actors in supporting roles, including Jackie Shroff, Tiku Talsania, Lokesh Mittal, Mohit Nehra, and Gaurav Pandey.

What we didn’t love about Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri

TMMTMTTM’s plot feels predictable and overdone. The first half of the movie relies heavily on Gen Z’s meme slang and its dating trends. If the intention was to make it more relatable to Gen Z kids, the movie could have done better than forcing it upon us. Starring Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday, TMMTMTTM feels like a missed opportunity for actors who have been redeeming themselves with good scripts and performances recently. Kartik’s Rehaan is an underwhelming version of Sonu from Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. And given Ananya’s Kho Gaye Hum Kahan, CTRL, Call Me BaeTMMTMTTM feels like she’s back to square one in acting. Even though the film positions her as the lead, her role feels oddly sidelined, with bland dialogue and a lack of screen presence.

That said, Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri still makes for a one-time watch if you’re planning to spend Christmas at the theatres. Just don’t walk out before the interval.
