Long before Ranbir Kapoor came into the picture, his father, actor Rishi Kapoor ruled the romance genre in Bollywood. Among his most memorable talents was the ability to lip-sync in the most realistic manner possible. The songs “Main Shayar To Nahin” from Bobby, “Pardah Hai Pardah” from Amar Akbar Anthony, and “Dafli Wale Dafli Baja” from Sargam are among his most memorable performances. Even though he wasn’t a professional singer, he possessed the ability to make lip-syncing look effortless and natural. He credited his father, who helped him hone this skill. However, Rishi Kapoor was stunned to know how his own son, Ranbir Kapoor, didn’t possess this skill initially. Do you know what he said when he found out?

Rishi Kapoor on Ranbir Kapoor struggling with lip-syncing

In an old interview clip of Rishi Kapoor shared by Jarp Media, he said Ranbir never called him regarding his work until Rockstar (2011). Sharing what Ranbir asked, Rishi Kapoor said, “Papa, I’m finding it a little difficult to sing lip-sync songs.” Rishi was surprised to hear this and said, “You’re Rishi Kapoor’s son, you’re facing issues in lip-syncing?” So, he asked his father to help him out. Here’s what Rishi Kapoor suggested to him that elevated Ranbir Kapoor’s performance in the movie.
“Whenever you sing a song, you’ve always got to match the pitch of the singer. The tenor, the singer, is singing in a high pitch, and the actor is singing in a low voice. So, I asked him to match the pitch. Your neck’s veins must swell with each note, so the audience believes you that you’re singing. Not the playback singer.”
His father’s advice worked like a charm for Ranbir, as evident in his performance in the song, Sadda Haq. The way he’s lip-syncing it and other songs in the same movie, it is difficult to separate Ranbir from his character Janardan Jakhar aka J.J. aka Jordan.
