Long gone are the times when Bollywood gave us strict parents like Narayan Shankar and Chaudhary Baldev Singh. Now we have supportive, encouraging, and progressive dads blessing our screens. So this Father’s Day, let’s check out some of the best non-toxic Bollywood dads who are absolutely #dadgoals.
1. Anup Saxena from Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl
Lieutenant Colonel Anup Saxena, aka Pankaj Tripathi, is one of the greenest flags we’ve seen in a Bollywood movie. And Gunjan Saxena’s father has set the bar really high. He never lets his daughter feel lesser than any man and always has her back. From his undeterred spirit to help his daughter live her dreams to his endless support, ek Anup Saxena jaise papa toh hum bhi deserve karte hain.
2. Sachin Sandhu from Thappad
Sachin Sandhu is a brilliant father to Amrita and is unlike other fathers who force their daughters to never leave their husband’s houses. In fact, he was supportive of her and never asked her to sort things out with her abusive husband. This is why Sachin Sandhu is actual #dadgoals and we’d appreciate more such characters in Bollywood movies.
3. Narottam Mishra from Bareilly Ki Barfi
Bitti Mishra’s father, Mishraji, is one of the coolest fathers to ever come out of Bollywood. He is a simple, sweet man who loves his daughter, doesn’t judge her, and doesn’t pressurise her into marrying a man of his choice. He is supportive and understands that his daughter is an individual who can make her own decisions. Aur vaise bhi apni beti ki cigarette light karne vale papa toh bass movies mein hi milte hain!
4. Mahavir Singh Phogat from Dangal
“Maari chhoriyaan chhoron se kam hain ke?” Aamir Khan as Mahavir Phogat is desi dad goals. He never makes his daughters feel like they can’t achieve something they set their minds to just because they belong to a particular gender. He treats and trains them for the sport without considering what society calls a man’s game. So, can we have more of such strict but sorted dads onscreen?
5. Prem Singh from Badhaai Do
Prem Singh, played by the late Nitesh Pandey, made a huge difference in Badhaai Do. In a film about lavender marriages, he stood up and supported his daughter from the beginning. And even though everyone in the movie was too embarrassed or tried to school his daughter, he never questioned her.
6. Champak Bansal from Angrezi Medium
Irrfan Khan was an actor par excellence, and he deserves all the praise for being the flag bearer of non-toxic Bollywood fathers for his role as Champak Bansal. He did everything in his power to fulfil his daughter’s dreams, even when it meant crushing his own dreams.
7. Vijay Salgaonkar from Drishyam
One might question if Vijay really is a non-toxic dad, but in my opinion, he was doing what needed to be done to protect his family. He possibly is toxic for other kids, yes. But for his own kids, he is a father to die for.
