Do you want to know how much your partner loves you? Take an easy test; it doesn’t involve them bringing down the moon for you. Just swap phones for a day or two. Then, forget the word privacy and dive into their chats, photos, apps, etc. This will reveal whether you are transparent with each other or if it’s an act you put up. This is what filmmaker Advait Chandan tried to explore through the movie Loveyapa. The film stars Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor in the lead. Read our review of Loveyapa to know if this is really the romcom you need this Valentine’s week.

A rom-com that resonates with Gen Z

Like any other Bollywood movie nowadays, Loveyapa uses Gen Z to critique the modern dating scenario. Junaid Khan as Gaurav, aka Gucci, aka Babboo, is a young Delhi boy who loves the idea of love. Khushi Kapoor, who plays his girlfriend Baani aka Baani Boo, carries the grace that is needed for the role. The two lovers are much in love as they never hide anything from each other. This act soon comes to a halt when Baani’s shudh Hindi-speaking father intervenes. He wants both of them to exchange their phones for 24 hours to decide if they still want to marry each other. This is the beginning of chaos, top-notch humour, chill guy energy, amazing dialogues, and everything that lands well in this rom-com.
Loveyapa, the remake of Pradeep Ranganathan’s Tamil film Love Today (2022), is a fun watch. The supporting stories, including Gaurav’s sister’s relationship with Anupam (Kiku Sharda), are a delight. Both Kiran (Tanvika Parlikar) and Anupam put up a great show with their cutesy relationship. Ashutosh Rana, who plays Khushi’s father in the movie, leaves the audience impressed with his dad jokes. His punchlines packed with his serious demeanour elevate this rom-com.
Why should you watch Loveyapa?

Just when the film has you in a fit of laughter, the comedian and influencer, Aaditya Kulshresth, aka Kullu, makes his remarkable entry. His performance really makes him what he wants his fans to say from now on, Bollywood superstar Kullu. Furthermore, Gaurav and Baani’s chaotic relationship starts to unravel amid the horrors of AI and sexual harassment. The movie brings out these issues much later but portrays them well. Supporting actors Ashutosh Rana, Grusha Kapoor, Devishi Madaan, Tanvika Parlikar, and Nikhil Mehta were excellent in their roles.
