There are always one too many opinions about pregnancy and childbirth. One of the most common is the “ideal” way to deliver a baby. There’s always a debate about vaginal birth vs caesarean. And everyone is eager to give their two cents about someone else’s body and how their baby should be delivered. Suniel Shetty found himself amid controversy for the same reason.

Suniel Shetty on Athiya Shetty’s delivery

In an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha, Suniel Shetty revealed how Athiya Shetty has embraced motherhood. While talking about the entire delivery process, Suniel Shetty said Athiya chose to have a “natural” delivery instead of a C-section. “In a world where everybody wants the comfort of having a caesarean baby, she chose not to do that and had a natural delivery. I remember how every nurse and paediatrician in the hospital said that it’s unbelievable how she went through the whole process,” he recalls.

While promoting his upcoming film, Kesari Veer, Suniel Shetty further said, “That hit me as a father. I was like, ‘Wow, she’s ready!’ Athiya was very, very strong to do that.” He attributes this strength to his wife, Mana Shetty, saying, “Her mother is a strong woman herself, and Athiya probably soaked in all of that from her. I’ve to reiterate that Athiya is such a beautiful mother. Not once has she shown any kind of stress or a frown or shown that she’s tired and exhausted.”

Suniel Shetty’s remark about how women choose to have a caesarean baby for comfort didn’t sit well with the audience, but does his comment hold some ground?

Is vaginal birth better than caesarean?

Well, vaginal births are generally safer than C-sections but does that make them easier? Not at all. First things first, vaginal birth and caesarean births are very different. And the truth is, you can’t always control how your baby will be born. While vaginal births have their upsides, caesarean births are sometimes the safer choice. And they aren’t easy or comfortable. It takes a C-section almost 6-8 weeks to heal and comes with a lot of restrictions because of the incision. So, the belief that caesarean births are more comfortable isn’t true. Sometimes, they are necessary, and other times, it really is the choice of the person who has to endure the pain before, during, and after the birth.

While Suniel Shetty’s only goal with this statement might have been praising his daughter, there was absolutely no need to rank vaginal births and caesarean sections on a scale of comfort. Childbirth is uncomfortable, period. It is hard work being a mother no matter how you become one. And 25 years into the 21st century, we expect India’s celebrities to be more aware and do better on public platforms.
