It’s been 25 years since the Kandahar Hijack wreaked havoc in India. The tragic incident, which is also one of the longest rescue operations to date, is unforgettable to us. Setting the scene
The web series portrays the hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight 814 in the year 1999. It not only brings forward the loopholes of the government but also the other authorities. The first episode sets the backdrop of the upcoming event. As Captain Sharan Dev (Vijay Varma) gets ready to operate the flight from Kathmandu to Delhi, he and Indrani (Patralekhaa) have a chat before making a call to their family before taking off. Little did they know what terror awaited them in the upcoming hours.
Suspense on the loose
Watching IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack web series felt like timing my curiosity against the suspense in every episode. The show gives an insight into the workings of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and the Intelligence Bureau (IB). Their work rivalry begets a question— are they working for us, or are they working to get more nominal power & control?
Flight IC 814 gets hijacked by five armed men, with 180 people, including the cabin crew and passengers, held hostage. The suspense gets doubled each minute as the hijackers plan to land in Kabul. But as it turns out, the plane is low on fuel. Will the hijackers succeed in their plan?
The hijackers forced the Captain to divert the flight to several locations until landing in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Kandahar was then under Taliban rule and served as Osama bin Laden’s hideout. The Indian bureaucracy fails to understand the gravity of the incident and delays its decisions. They further accuse Captain Sharan Dev of making haste. His critical thinking and resilience overpower the power politics and save the hostages. The series will leave you hooked to the screen with its nail-biting episodes.
If you loved watching Ram Madhvani’s 2016 film Neerja, you shouldn’t miss IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, as it is equally thrilling. The remarkable star cast will make the six episodes a memorable experience for you. The web series stars Vijay Varma, Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur, Amrita Puri, Dia Mirza, Patralekhaa, and Pooja Gor, among many other gems from Indian cinema.
If you want to watch a web series worth your time, IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack is here to arrest your attention.
Can you watch IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack with your family?: Meri taraf se haan hai! However, I’d suggest you keep some snacks ready; the series won’t let you move an inch from your seat.
