1. Black pepper
Don’t we all love a little pinch of pepper to elevate the taste of our food? Well, the same little pinch of pepper is an excellent rat and mice repellent. Rats cannot stand the sharp smell of pepper and if they sniff it, they might end up dead. So, the next time you are using pepper, just sprinkle a bit at the entry points of your home and get rid of those pesky rats.

2. Peppermint oil
The fresh aroma of peppermint oil may be very pleasing to our senses, but it’s the opposite for rats and mice. Peppermint oil acts as a quick and easy repellent for rats. Just soak a few cotton balls in peppermint oil, and place them in the little nooks and corners of your house. Keep replacing them every one or two days, and make your home smell fresh and rodent free.

3. Ammonia
Well, this is one smell that not only repels mice and rats but humans too, so just bear with it. It is an excellent way to get rid of mice as they hate strong smells. Just like onions, garlic too has a strong smell which repels rats. It is another easy home remedy that works like a charm. Cut up some garlic cloves and place them in the hard-to-reach corners of your home. You can also mix garlic and water, and create a liquid that you can spray around these points.

6. Plaster of Paris and cocoa powder
Cocoa powder is an inviting smell for rats just like us humans. But while you consume cocoa powder all by itself, just mix a little POP for the rodents. This will help you get rid of them as they will choke on dry POP and run for their lives. Mix a small amount of both, and sprinkle a generous amount of it around the entry points of your home.
