In a sea of message-driven, over-the-top movies, comes Friday Night Plan like a breath of fresh air. Starring Babil Khan and Amrith Jayan in the lead with Juhi Chawla as their mother, Friday Night Plan is directed by Vatsal Neelakantan. Here’s our review of this sweet tale of brotherhood.
A sweet coming-of-age story
Recently, we have been bombarded with movies that are trying to drive home a serious message or talking about deeply emotional, often traumatic experiences. In that heavy and murky sea comes Friday Night Plan making you feel all nostalgic and delighted. When their mother (Juhi Chawla) is out overnight for a business trip, Sid and Adi go out for the hottest party of the year before their mom gets back. It’s a simple coming-of-age story of two brothers.
Siddharth (Babil Khan) and Aditya Menon (Amrith Jayan) are always bickering with each other. The two brothers never seem to understand each other and aren’t as close as they seemingly were earlier. Friday Night Plan is a chapter from 18-year-old Siddharth’s life, chronicling a day that turned his life around in a meaningful way.

Though set in a high school, Friday Night Plan is not about drug-addicted, rich people’s kids in an Ivy League school. It’s all about the nerd who sits quietly in class but becomes the butt of jokes regardless. Sid is a nerd. Given a choice, he would rather read books in a library than go out to party, and he is perfectly content in his life. But his life turns around when, in a football final, he scores a winning goal against the rival school. He becomes a sudden star and everyone wants to be around him. Thanks to his stardom, he gets invited to the hottest party of the year – Friday Night Plan.
Though initially not interested, Sid decides to attend the party when he finds out it’s being held at Natasha’s (Medha Rana) house, a girl he has a crush on. His brother, though a junior, wants to attend the party and convinces Sid to take him along. As Sid and Adi go through the day together, the experiences they have and the challenges they face bring the brothers closer together.
Babil Khan shines in his role, and so does Amrith Jayan. The two bring out the youthfulness in the story quite aptly. Both actors are well-suited to their respective characters and shine in their roles.
Friday Night Plan is not an outstanding movie, but it is definitely a feel-good, one-time watch. The movie is now streaming on Netflix.
Can you watch Friday Night Plan with your family?: Absolutely yes, and you should watch it with the fam to enjoy some bonding time.
