Ramadan is the month of reflecting, repenting and some serious relishing when it’s iftar time. When the iftar spread is laid, our urge to feast on all those pakoras is irresistible but all this indulgence brings an unwanted guest: bloating. That uncomfortable feeling is quite common during Ramadan. If you want to get rid of bloating without compromising on the food experience, here are five delicious and easy drinks for bloating that will keep you light and comfortable throughout Ramadan.

1. Watermelon and basil cooler recipe

Ingredients: 

1 cup fresh watermelon, cubed

5-6 fresh basil leaves

1/2 cup coconut water

Juice of 1/2  a lime

Ice cubes

Pinch of rock salt

Method:

Blend the watermelon and basil leaves until smooth. Strain (optional) and mix in the coconut water, rock salt and lime juice. Pour in a glass over ice cubes. Serve chilled.

2. Cucumber and yoghurt lassi recipe

Ingredients:

1/2 cup plain yoghurt

1/2 cup cold water

1/2 cup cucumber, grated

1/2 tsp cumin powder

Pinch of salt

Pinch of roasted cumin powder (bhuna zeera)

Ice cubes

Sugar to taste or honey for health benefits

Method:

Blend everything until smooth. Pour into a glass and add ice cubes. Garnish with the zeera powder. Serve chilled over ice and sip away.

3. Strawberry smoothie recipe

Ingredients:

1 cup milk or coconut water

1 cup chopped strawberries

A medium-sized boiled beetroot, peeled and chopped

2 tbsp chia seeds, soaked for 30 mins at least

3 dates, pitted

1/2 inch peeled piece of ginger

Method:

In a blender, add milk, strawberries, beetroot, chia seeds, dates, and ginger. Blend until the mixture is fully combined and creamy. Serve chilled.

4. Chaas (buttermilk) recipe

Ingredients:

1.5 cups yoghurt

1 tsp roasted cumin powder (bhuna zeera powder)

1 cup water (cold) or as you like

A few mint leaves

5 to 6 small ice cubes (optional)

1/2 tsp black salt or regular salt, add as required

3 to 4 mint sprigs or coriander sprigs, for garnish

Method:

Add the curd, roasted cumin powder, mint leaves, water and salt in a blender. Blend for 2 to 3 minutes, until the ingredients are combined and the curd has been mixed well. You should see a frothy, foamy layer with a bit of butter fat separated from the blending. Pour in glasses. Garnish with mint leaves or coriander leaves and roasted cumin powder and serve.

5. Pineapple smoothie recipe

Ingredients:

1.5 cups almond milk or coconut milk

2 cups chopped pineapple

1 cup chopped banana (optional)

1-2 tbsp honey

1 tbsp chia seeds (soaked for 30 mins at least, optional)

Method:

Add coconut/almond milk, pineapple and banana to a blender. Make sure everything is blended properly. Add honey and soaked chia seeds. Pour into glasses and serve.

Sip these drinks for bloating to enjoy Ramadan this year.
