Chhorii 2, directed by Vishal Furia, was one of the most anticipated sequels of this year. With a gripping storyline, eerie sugar cane fields, and jump scares waiting at every corner, Chhorii 1 had us in its clutches. So naturally, we were excited to see Nushrratt Bharuccha and Soha Ali Khan in the sequel, bringing the same kind of impact. While the first movie shows female infanticide as its main issue, Chhorii 2 brings out the social evil of child marriages. But does it do justice to its prequel and leave you having nightmares? Read this Chhorii 2 movie review to find out.
The buildup is exciting, but the climax doesn’t pass the vibe check
Chhorii 2 picks up 7 years after Sakshi (Nushrratt Bharuccha) ran from the eerie sugarcane field with her unborn baby girl. Cut to today, she has a beautiful girl, Ishani (Hardika Sharma). Ishani has a rare disease where she can’t step out in the sun, or else she’ll burn. Yeah, it is not inspired by Twilight, don’t worry. But even after 7 years, Sakshi still feels scared for her daughter and worries about Rajbir (Saurabh Goyal) appearing one day and harming them both. And soon, her fear becomes a reality as Rajbir kidnaps Ishani and takes her back to the creepy sugarcane fields. Sakshi follows to protect her daughter, but Ishani has already been set up for a sacrifice to bring back goodwill to the community.

According to the community customs and traditions, Ishani must marry Pradhaan Ji, an ancient aadimanav in order to keep him alive. For this, Pradhaan Ji’s daasi (servant), a witch (Soha Ali Khan), must prepare Ishani and turn her into a woman so she can take the daasi’s place and serve Pradhaan Ji. Only once Ishani’s sacrifice is made and Sakshi is killed in front of the whole village will Rajbir be accepted back into his community. So, will the daasi be able to use her evil to sacrifice Ishani, or will Sakshi save her daughter from the haunted village once again?
The cast is the highlight of this movie
Nushrat Bharuccha as Sakshi was fierce and powerful. Her determination to save her daughter is clear as day, and she would fight anyone and anything to protect Ishani. But in certain moments she lacks the ability to convey the fear or tension of a terrifying scene. Soha Ali Khan as the daasi is a delight to watch. Her black clothes, covered face and eerie voice set the tone to communicate the graveness of the situation. Her range of expressions and change of heart will make you realise how her Pataudi genes are running strong. Apart from this, the supporting cast, including Gashmeer Mahajani as Inspector Samar and Saurabh Goyal as Rajbir, deliver decent performances.
That’s all for the Chhorii 2 movie review, which is now streaming on Amazon Prime.
