When the government announced a lockdown in 2020, and we started working from home, I was personally so relieved! I hate waking up early and getting dressed to go out and socialise in the name of work. So, with WFH becoming the new normal, I felt like my time had come! And it did too, for a few weeks. Then came the wobbly fat around the waist and the extended chin and… well, you get the point! I tried motivating myself through celebrity workout inspiration too by getting out my dusty, old yoga mat, but then again, I hate working out. So, here’s what I have finally settled on – a Bollywood workout at home! I made a playlist of some of the best Bollywood workout songs which have exhausting steps. Some are fun, some are groovy, and some just make you question a lot of things! Try them out. If nothing else, you’ll get some much-needed exercise (and a few laughs) out of it.
1. Husn Hai Suhana – Coolie No. 1
Any Govinda video can actually be a great source of workout inspiration but this video is nothing short of an intense Zumba class!
2. Tera Rang Balle Balle – Soldier
Got sore shoulders? Go Tera Rang Balle Balle with Bobby and Preity! This song ends up giving you a great Bollywood workout for your shoulders and arms.
3. Main Khiladi Tu Anari – Main Khiladi Tu Anari
When it comes to this video, we can safely skip Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan, and take our focus directly to the background dancers! Absolute core-toning moves!
4. Dola Re Dola – Devdas
This isn’t a choreography for amateurs. If you can nail it, you’ll not only be losing a few calories but will also impress Mummy! Classical moves hain, bhai!
5. Kajra Re – Bunty Aur Babli
Haven’t we all tried to copy the Kajra Re steps for wedding performances? I still can’t get them right, despite years of practice! Even though it’s a slow song, the fun of doing these steps and feeling like Aishwarya makes you not want to stop! More dancing = more calories lost!
6. Kamli – Dhoom 3
If you’re into acrobats and high-power moves, please go Kamli Kamli with Katrina! I get tired just looking at this song. I need a nap.
7. Saree Ke Fall Sa – R… Rajkumar
If you’re someone like me who gets tired of typing a zillion words on the laptop, here is a good workout song for your wrists! Watch the song to know what I mean.
8. Sun Saathiya – ABCD 2
Again, not for the amateurs (aka me!) but if you want to try it, go for it! My mind is still blown over the fact that these kids just hang out at the docks. Mummy se darr nahi lagta?
9. Chogada – Loveyatri
Performing Garba with foreigners at a foreign location? Count me in! But till the time our flights don’t take off, how about practising at home and getting rid of the side effects of being a couch potato?
10. It’s the Time to Disco – Kal Ho Na Ho
I know the song is pretty old now, but guys, it’s always the time to disco! This song is so peppy and involves so much jumping that it can give your jumping jacks routine a run for its money!
11. Ek Pal Ka Jeena – Kaho Naa Pyar Hai
This song was the rage when it hit the radio in 2000! With the video out, it became that one standard song where parents got their kids to compete. “Hrithik Roshan ki tarah karke dikhao!” As adults too, we can’t get over this song as the hook step is great for arms.
Bollywood songs have seen some big changes over the last few decades. From running around trees to now performing weird steps in equally weird locations, things have changed a lot! The one thing that remains the same, however, is the solid Bollywood workout the dances can give us. Chalo phir, let’s naacho!
