Aakhri Sach is based on the Burari case, the mass suicide of an entire family that shocked the world. Starring Tamannaah Bhatia as Police Officer Anya, the series is a fictitious take on the case. Directed by Robbie Grewal, the series also stars Abhishek Banerjee, Shivin Narang, Danish Iqbal, Nishu Dikshit, Kriti Vij, and Sanjeev Chopra. Here’s our review of Aakhri Sach.
A thanda take on an extremely chilling case
The series starts with 11 members of the Bhatia family found hanging in their house. Nine members are found with their eyes shut and mouths stuffed with cloth. One of the sons, Bhuvan (Abhishek Banerjee), is the only one found with his eyes and mouth open, while the grandmother is found dead in her room. Since this is a high-profile case, Anya is assigned to the case.
As Anya tries to figure out what’s going on with the mass deaths, the old secrets of the family come to light. The most shocking of which is the death of Jawahar Singh (Sanjeev Chopra), Bhuvan’s father.
With only two episodes out so far, Aakhri Sach will be a weekly episodic release. So far, the two episodes have just set the characters, without delving too much into the case. For a case that was so chilling, Aakhri Sach falls very flat. It doesn’t build the intensity or suspense of the original case. The first two episodes of the series were pretty thanda for something that should have been a lot more gripping and engaging. The performances are decent enough, but we don’t see anything great so far. Abhishek Banerjee’s performance, even in the short time we have seen him, is appreciable.
Aakhri Sach is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar and new episodes will release every Friday.
Can you watch Aakhri Sach with your family?: The series isn’t suitable for children, but adult family members can watch it together.
