A happy ending or just an ending?
While we have all shipped Pen and Colin’s relationship, we also know how Colin feels about Lady Whistledown. After bringing shame to the Bridgerton name on multiple accounts, Colin’s hate and disapproval of the witty writer seems justified. But will he approve of her when he finds out that she is none other than his soon-to-be bride, Penelope?
The Bridgerton series is set in the early 1800s when a woman’s job was to run a household, host balls, and take care of their family. A man and woman could never be seen in public doing anything unseemly, that could be disgraceful to the family. Women did not have a voice or the freedom to express their thoughts. In fact, they were supposed to conceal their intelligence and wit to please society and men. So naturally, when Penelope uses Lady Whisteldown to share her opinions publically, she finds power in her pen. But even she has messed up and made mistakes and wronged people. The Brigerton family being one of them.
Will Pen give up being Lady Whisteldown?
Throughout the series, Pen faces the threat of her identity being revealed, which makes her scared to lose everything she has. She even considers giving up Whisteldown after her engagement as she doesn’t want to break Colin’s heart and risk him finding out. That is until someone steals her identity and uses her column to impersonate her. It makes Penelope realise that Lady Whisteldown is not just a gossip paper. It is a platform that gives a voice to the numerous women silenced by their families and society, which is why giving up on Whisteldown means giving up on herself.
Now that she and Colin are finally heading towards their fairy tale ending, will Penenelope have to pick Colin over her identity? Or will she give up being a Bridgerton to continue being Lady Whistledown?
Watch the roller coaster season to find out. That’s all for the review of Bridgerton Season 3 Part 2, now streaming on Netflix.
Can you watch it with your family?: I would strongly suggest against it as the series is big on sexual content.
