Ready for the patriotic film of the year? Well, it’s here.
Sidharth Malhotra plays Capt Vikram Batra, one of the most celebrated heroes of the 1999 Kargil War. Directed by Vishnuvardhan, Shershaah details the pre-Kargil War events and Capt Vikram Batra’s role in the war. Malhotra tries really hard to be funny and endearing but he does much better in the serious moments. Kiara Advani tries hard to be a stubborn, proper Punjabi girl. Everyone tries really hard to do their roles well in this film, but it feels forced. Almost like a light filler for an intense war film.

The battle sequences are well done and make for a gripping watch. But the film loses the audience with its unimpressive dialogues. The film is strictly average but it does the job it was made to do. There’s a whole lot of action and Pakistan-bashing, just in time for Independence Day weekend. Watch it with the family to get your annual dose of Bollywood patriotism.

Watch Shershaah on Amazon Prime Video.
PS: As a Punjabi, it hurts my ears to hear mangled Punjabi which Bollywood insists on using and has never bothered to improve. Just please stop.
