Durga Puja is just around the corner which means this is the perfect time to start planning your menu. For most people, the five days of Durga Puja are all about meeting loved ones, eating delicious food, and enjoying the festival to the fullest. If you’ve got any Bengali friends, you’d know that food is a big part of the five-day fiesta. The range of dishes that you get to see between Shoshti and Doshomi stands unparalleled. So, if you’re planning to host socially distanced festivities at your place this year, here are some recipes for Durga Puja delicacies that you must try.

1. Kosha Mangsho

Kosha Mangsho, or mutton curry, is one of the most popular Bengali delicacies without which Durga Puja is considered incomplete. The dish is prepared by slow-cooking the gravy to get the best flavours from all ingredients.

2. Ilish Shorshe

Ilish Shorshe is a fish curry made from an exotic fish known as hilsa. This is, in fact, the National Fish of Bangladesh! Fish is one of the most common dishes found in a Bengali household. Thus, it finds a special place in the Durga Puja menu too.

3. Aloo Posto

If you’re a vegetarian who feels a little left out during Durga Puja, here’s something for you too! Aloo Posto is one of the most delicious ways of cooking the good ol’ potato with poppy seeds.

4. Doi Maachh

Doi Maachh is another famous Bengali fish curry that can be made in under 20 minutes. If you’ve got some last-minute guests coming over and have no time to prepare a lavish meal, Doi Maachh can be your saviour!

5. Mishti Doi

Mishti Doi is perhaps the most famous Bengali dish among non-Bengali folk. The creamy texture and unique sweetness make it a perfect addition to any meal.

6. Luchi Alur Dom

If you say you don’t like Luchi, sorry, we can’t be friends. Luchi, for the unaware, is the younger sibling of the north Indian favourite, bhaturas. Pair it up with Alur Dom and you get something that will leave you licking your fingers!

7. Channar Payesh

Channar Payesh, also known as chhena kheer in the northern states, is an important part of Durga Puja celebrations. The best part about this dish is that it’s extremely easy to prepare and requires only a few ingredients which can be found in most kitchens.

Festivals are a time to rejoice with your loved ones. If you’re planning to host your friends and family, these recipes for Durga Puja should definitely help you out!
