After more than three months of waiting, it’s Dhurandhar day again at the theatres, this time with Dhurandhar: The Revenge aka Dhurandhar Part 2. The sequel stars Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun, Danish Pandor, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Rakesh Bedi, and Gaurav Gera in lead roles, featuring Akshaye Khanna’s character only in a brief sequence. Dhurandhar ended with Rehman Dakait’s death, Jaskirat Singh Rangi’s introduction, and the most curious question: Kaun banega Lyari ka badshah? With a banger first edition, Aditya Dhar had us hooked with his bold storytelling, setting the expectations high for the second part. Is the sequel as thrilling as its prequel or is it an underwhelming three hours and 55 minutes? Read our review of Dhurandhar: The Revenge to find out.

Dhurandhar: The Revenge: A story of honsla, eendhan, badla

The first part set the premise for India’s Operation Dhurandhar, which began with Indian spy agent Hamza Ali Mazari aka Jaskirat Singh Rangi, infiltrating Pakistan’s underworld and politics. Dhurandhar Part 2 centres on Jaskirat not just infiltrating, but also attempting to end all the ISI terrorist gangs and operations against India. From befriending SP Aslam, Uzair Baloch, and Jameel Jamali to marrying Yalina, Hamza has convinced everyone of his (false) loyalty to them. Now, he pursues Major Iqbal to dismantle Pakistan’s criminal system and, more importantly, to find out who Bade Sahab really is, the mastermind behind several illegal businesses and deadly operations against India.

But the second edition is far more than just protecting India. Dhurandhar: The Revenge portrays Jaskirat’s past, what led him to become Hamza, and, above all, the stories of many people like him. This adds an emotional layer to the thrilling narrative.

Dhurandhar: The Review: Take a bow, Aditya Dhar!

Dhar had everyone eagerly awaiting Dhurandhar: The Revenge after a top-notch prequel. But in the current cinema landscape, a film franchise rarely lands well. Turns out, this sequel soared past expectations. To our surprise, Dhurandhar: The Revenge doesn’t immediately start with an anticipated action sequence. It starts on a sombre note, and you know you’re in for an unexpected ride.

Ten minutes in, you’re invested in Jaskirat’s twisted fate more than his execution of the spy operation. Ranveer Singh, who earlier stayed in the background, letting Akshaye Khanna cast his magic spell in Dhurandhar, finally grabs the spotlight. Ranveer carries Jaskirat’s traumatic past, his equally tiresome yet glorified present and future, and it shows in his performance. Even though Ranveer is the real Dhurandhar of the sequel, you’ll love watching Arjun Rampal’s Major Iqbal. He shines through in his lethal role.

Is Dhurandhar: The Revenge better than Dhurandhar?

Highly debatable. The sequel is a bit predictable in the first half, as you are now familiar with the major characters and their tendencies. But it’s the second half that keeps surprising you every minute. From every Indian retaliation against Pakistan’s threats to Operation Green Leaf, you’ll be stunned to know how things really work between countries. While Dhurandhar: The Revenge is among the better sequels and a massive hit, it still has a few misses. One being the film’s background score. The first instalment boasts a winning soundtrack; only Aari Aari from the sequel comes really close. Dhurandhar Part 2 struggles with the subtle humour that the first instalment nailed. This time, there are some explicitly crass jokes that might not sit well with some people.

Should you really wait till the credits roll?

In Aditya Dhar’s recent Instagram post, urging the audience to not give away spoilers, he also asked to wait until the credits stop rolling. And yes, you should, it’s exhilarating! Will there be a Dhurandhar 3 soon? Is the revenge still pending? Or is it something else entirely? You are not getting your answer just yet! Clear your schedule and watch Dhurandhar: The Revenge before you stumble upon a sneaky spoiler online that ruins the film’s vibe for you.

Dhurandhar: The Revenge is now running in theatres.

Can you watch Dhurandhar: The Revenge with your family?: No, the film portrays explicit obscenity and gore.
