Starring Kunal Kemmu in the lead, the web series Single Papa is finally out on Netflix. The trailer promised a wholesome series about a single man who wishes to adopt a child. But is the show worth watching? Read our review of Single Papa to find out.
Single Papa series review: The plot

The series follows Gaurav Gehlot, an entitled brat who shockingly decides to adopt a baby right after his divorce. Even though he is determined and excited, Gaurav’s conservative family does not support his decision to be a single dad at all. Not only do they not want him to adopt, but they’re also worried his impulsive decision will mess up his sister Namrata’s wedding, which is just a few days away. But this isn’t the only problem that’s holding Gaurav back from adopting a baby.
He struggles to convince the chairperson of the Seva Bhavan orphanage, Mrs Nehra, that he can raise a child as a single male parent. More so, Mrs Nehra considers Gaurav an immature, stubborn, and short-tempered male chauvinist who can never be a good parent. Will Gaurav succeed in redeeming himself? Will he convince her that he can adopt and raise a child as a single male parent?
What we loved about Single Papa

With a thoughtful plot, the series has its heart in the right place. Single Papa tells a story we rarely see on-screen: a man choosing single parenthood and challenging both his patriarchal mindset and that of those around him. The characters beautifully operate in the grey areas. Even though Gaurav’s family refuses to support him, their resistance reflects societal conditioning rather than stubbornness.
Kunal Kemmu’s flawed yet sincere Gaurav will make you root for him instantly. Other actors, including Manoj Pahwa, shine in every scene with their effortless acting. Neha Dhupia’s portrayal of Mrs Nehra adds a layer to the series. She’s the only character who brings a calm, mature energy to the plot. Single Papa also stars Prajakta Koli, Ayesha Raza Mishra, Neha Dhupia, Isha Talwar, and Aisha Ahmed, among other notable names. They all elevate the series with their quirky characters and engaging performances.
What we didn’t love about Single Papa

For a show with such an amazing star cast and layered plot, Single Papa drops the ball when it comes to its humour. A lot of jokes feel forced, especially the ones that are trying to throw shade at Gen Z with their slang. The plot also feels predictable and sometimes out of place due to the lazy writing. Single Papa, as a web series, focuses mostly on the surface of the plot rather than delving into family conflicts and gender roles. But apart from these flaws, Single Papa is easily a one-time watch series due to its heartwarming story and wholesome cast.
Single Papa is now streaming on Netflix.
Can you watch Single Papa with your family?: Yes, the series doesn’t portray obscene language or intimacy.
