A lot of films are ready to hit the screens this year. Here’s a list of 10 movies that you should definitely be spending your money on in 2018.
1. PADMAAVAT
STARRING: DEEPIKA PADUKONE, RANVEER SINGH, SHAHID KAPOOR
RELEASING ON: JANUARY 25
All the controversy notwithstanding, this is touted as the most promising movie of 2018. Based on the 16th-century Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s epic poem, Padmaavat is the story of honour, valour and obsession.
2. PADMAN
STARRING: AKSHAY KUMAR, RADHIKA APTE
RELEASING ON: FEBRUARY 9
Akshay Kumar stars in this real-life story of Arunachalam Muruganantham, the man who manufactured affordable sanitary napkins for women despite facing ridicule and ostracization. Directed by R Balki, the film aims to ‘normalize’ the discussion around menstruation.
3. HICHKI
STARRING: RANI MUKERJI
RELEASING ON: FEBRUARY 23
Rani Mukerji playing the role of a teacher with a speech disorder is just what the doctor prescribed. Hichki is a remake of an American film ‘Front of the Class’ and is the kind of inspirational story anyone would be happy to see.
4. PARI
STARRING: ANUSHKA SHARMA
RELEASING ON: MARCH 2
Not much is known about the story of Pari, produced by and starring Anushka Sharma, but from the looks of the posters, this movie doesn’t seem to be for the faint-hearted.
5. RAAZI
STARRING: ALIA BHATT, VICKY KAUSHAL
RELEASING ON: MAY 11
Fans will get to see Alia in a de-glam avatar yet again with Raazi. This period thriller is based on a Kashmiri girl who gets married to a Pakistani officer.
6. SANJU
STARRING: RANBIR KAPOOR
RELEASING ON: JUNE 29
After a dismal 2017, Ranbir Kapoor will be looking to redeem himself with ‘Sanju’, a biopic on Sanjay Dutt. The film will revolve around Dutt’s rise and fall in Bollywood, his jail term and multiple controversies. Even though the official trailer is not yet out, leaked photos from the set prove that Ranbir has at least got Sanjay’s ‘look’ right.
7. VEERE DI WEDDING
STARRING: KAREENA KAPOOR, SONAM KAPOOR
RELEASING ON: JUNE 1
Kareena Kapoor will make her comeback post motherhood with this ‘chick-flick’ comedy about four friends attending a wedding.
8. FANNE KHAN
STARRING: AISHWARYA RAI, ANIL KAPOOR, RAJKUMAR RAO
RELEASING ON: JUNE 15
Fanne Khan brings together Aishwarya and Anil Kapoor 19 years after Taal. The film promises an interesting premise of a famous singer (played by Aishwarya) kidnapped by the father (Anil Kapoor) of a wannabe singer.
9. GOLD
STARRING: AKSHAY KUMAR
RELEASING ON: AUGUST 15
No one does patriotic movies better than Akshay Kumar. On Independence Day, he will come out with his second biopic of the year. Gold is based on the life of hockey player Balbir Singh Sr and recreates India’s historic win at the 1948 Olympics.
10. SUPER 30
STARRING: HRITHIK ROSHAN
RELEASING ON: NOVEMBER 23
Super 30 will be Hrithik’s first biopic, where he will bring to life the story of Maths genius Anand Kumar who coaches underprivileged kids free of cost to crack IIT-JEE entrance exams.
11. ZERO
STARRING: SHAH RUKH KHAN
RELEASING ON: DECEMBER 21
Shah Rukh Khan will be playing a dwarf in this year-end release.
