Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s film, really?

12th Fail is a success story that was a complete failure at the start, or that’s what the makers of the movie thought. Zero Se Restart shows how every director who read the script considered it a great flop. Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the writer of 12th Fail, didn’t want to direct the movie. But no other director bought the story either. So, he was compelled to sit on the director’s chair to give life to his vision. And that’s when the real chaos started.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the same person who made films like Parinda, 3 Idiots, and Eklavya, will now direct 12th Fail? The movie that does not contain any of the classic VVC traits? No gunshots, no blood, no drama? “Release it on an OTT” is what his wife, Anupama Chopra, said in the documentary as she anticipated vacant theatres on the release of the film. But who can budge the will of an artist who believes in his art?

All that didn’t go well

The documentary lives up to its name as it reveals what goes on behind the making of a film. The super-hit movie went through a series of disasters. From finalising the script for the nth time, locking a perfect location to finding the right actors, you’ll be surprised to know what all the crew went through to deliver you a masterpiece. Furthermore, Vikrant Massey wasn’t even on the list of potential actors to cast in the movie. Can you believe that? Zero Se Restart shows all the candid moments from the shooting of overcrowded coaching classes and railway station scenes. The chaos will make you laugh but will also leave you in awe of Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

Zero Se Restart is not just a documentary

Zero Se Restart is an open journal by Vidhu Vinod Chopra that turned out to be a ‘thank you’ note for 12th Fail‘s crew and the audience. It’s not a regular documentary. Zero Se Restart is a warm hug that reminds you that it’s okay to start afresh. Sometimes, it’s also a pat on the back to ‘restart’ when you’re at square one. Whether you’re a budding filmmaking student or someone curious to know interesting facts about the movie 12th Fail, this documentary is perfect for you. And if you need a feel-good yet motivational watch on a random Friday, Zero Se Restart is created for you.

Directed by Jaskunwar Kohli, and starring Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Vikrant Massey, and the whole cast and crew of 12th Fail, the documentary is worth a watch.

Zero Se Restart is now running in theatres near you.

Can you watch it with your family? The documentary contains some cuss words but if your parents are cool with that, it’s a great watch. Apart from that, it doesn’t contain intimate scenes.
