Telugu heartthrob Vijay Deverakonda is finally making his Bollywood debut with Karan Johar’s Liger. He’s got the entirety of North India waiting with bated breath to see him on the big screen. Most people know Deverakonda as Arjun Reddy aka Kabir Singh of the South. Arjun Reddy shot him to unparalleled fame and he hasn’t stopped amassing the love of the audience. As you wait for another Vijay Deverakonda blockbuster to hit the theatres, here are some of his movies to watch before you go for Liger.

1. Nuvvila (2011)

Vijay Deverakonda’s debut movie, Nuvvila, follows a trio of friends Anand, Mahesh, and Raju. The three men work at Pizza Express to earn money and pursue their dreams. When one pizza delivery changes hands between them, the trio come face-to-face with the women who will change their lives. While Vijay Deverakonda only has a minor role in the movie, he was praised for his performance.

2. Pelli Choopulu (2016)

Pelli Choopulu was Vijay Deverakonda’s first movie in a lead role. Starring alongside Riyu Varma, the movie is partly based on the real-life incident of the “Spitfire BBQ” food truck. Prasanth and Chitra meet each other at a matchmaking event. When they are accidentally locked in a room, the two talk about their past and get to know each other’s passions and dreams. Soon, they find out Prasanth came to the wrong house for a meet-up. The two join hands to start a food truck, where Prasanth would take care of the cooking while Chitra takes care of the business side of things. The rest of the movie follows the two as they navigate the ups and downs in their professional and personal relationship.

Pelli Choopulu was a success and earned a place in Film Companion’s 25 Best Telugu Films of the Decade. The movie was also remade into Hindi as Mitron and in Malayalam as Vijay Superum Pournamiyum.

3. Arjun Reddy (2017)

This was the blockbuster movie that shot Vijay Deverakonda to massive fame. Arjun Reddy saw the actor playing an alcoholic and abusive surgeon. Deverakonda played the titular character in the movie, a high-functioning alcoholic surgeon with anger management issues. After his girlfriend of three years is forcibly married off to another man, Reddy goes on a self-destruction spree with drugs, drinking, and casual relationships. It is only when tragedy strikes that Arjun makes an effort to redeem himself. The movie got Deverakonda many accolades, including a Best Actor Filmfare award.

4. Mahanati (2018)

Following the life of the yesteryear actor Savitri, the film sees Keerthy Suresh in the titular role. The film also stars Dulquer Salman as Gemini Ganesan, along with Samantha Prabhu and Vijay Deverakonda as Madhuravani and Vijay Anthony, respectively. The movie follows Savitri’s turbulent life from her entry into the entertainment industry to her death. Her story is told through the lens of photographer Vijay Anthony and journalist Madhuravani.

5. Geetha Govindam (2018)

A romantic comedy starring Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles, this film was one of the biggest successes of 2018. Vijay Govind falls in love at first sight with Geetha. A chance encounter on a train leads to them befriending each other, but soon, their friendship is mired in misunderstandings. Despite Vijay’s repeated attempts to apologise, Geetha rebuffs him and further taunts him. Heartbroken and tired of being misunderstood, Vijay decides to keep his distance from Geetha. Soon, Geetha learns the truth from her boss and starts falling in love with Vijay. The rest of the movie focuses on how the couple comes together and finds their happily-ever-after.

6. NOTA (2018)

NOTA is a political thriller that was also Vijay Deverakonda’s Tamil debut. When his father is arrested, video game designer Varun Subramanyam is suddenly thrust into the post of Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister. With his father expected to be out on bail soon, Varun doesn’t take his post seriously. But a violent riot in the city pulls him out of his palace and brings him face-to-face with reality. With the opposition party working against him, and even his own father and his supporters working against Varun, things are not easy. How Varun emerges as a true leader amidst the conspiracies surrounding him forms the crux of the story.

7. Taxiwaala (2018)

A supernatural comedy thriller, Taxiwaala stars Vijay Deverakonda, Priyanka Jawalkar, and Malavika Nair in lead roles. Shiva, after trying different jobs, decides to be a taxi driver. He manages to buy a car from an unknown person by borrowing money from his sister-in-law. When he starts driving his newly bought car, he starts experiencing spooky phenomena in the car. Shiva tries reaching out to the owner of the car, but to no avail. Soon, he comes face-to-face with a professor of parapsychology and psychology who tells Shiva the story of Astral projection that he conducted on a student, Sisira Bharadwaj. Shiva finds out about Sisira’s story and learns about her revenge plan and tries to save her life. The rest of the film deals with how Sisira plays out her revenge and whether or not Shiva is able to save her life.
