Have family conflicts become a part of your everyday life at home? The problem might be with the walls of your home, more than with your partner or a family member. According to Vastu Shastra, the energy and layout of your home can impact your relationships with the people living in that space. Do you know how Vastu affects the peace in your family?

We spoke to Mumbai-based Vastu consultant Isha Sinhal to share some tips to overcome unhealthy relationships in marriage and family. Here’s what she suggests.

Ideal directions for the home to balance relationships

In Vastu Shastra, each direction in your home silently shapes your family’s energy. While each member has different traits and behaviour patterns, every direction influences them deeply. For instance, the southwest governs long-term relationships, marriage, and emotional security, according to Isha. The east supports visibility, truth, and expression, which helps resolve misunderstandings. The northwest impacts communication, emotional movement, and family dynamics. “When these zones are disturbed, cluttered, or energetically blocked, relationships often suffer from mistrust, emotional distance, or toxicity,” Isha explains. And that’s why you should follow proper directions for your dining area, bedroom, and other spaces in your home to overcome unhealthy relationships.

Ideal directions for the living room at home

The living room is a space where people come together for celebrations and conversations. This is where people strengthen their bond with their family members and friends. So, you must follow the right direction to place your family seating area. Isha suggests building it in the east-northeast or east of your home to promote easy conversation and natural movement of emotions. “Seating in the southwest brings deeper bonding, but can cause stubbornness if overused or cluttered,” she says. You must avoid placing the living room sofa in the southeast of your house. But why? “Being the fire zone, the southeast direction might increase arguments, restlessness, and ego clashes,” Isha explains.

Ideal directions for a couple’s bedroom

Your bedroom isn’t just for sleeping. It’s where you reconnect with your partner, giving love its space to grow. But if it’s not in the right direction, the same bedroom can lead to a tense relationship. Isha suggests making the southwest zone your bedroom. It’s the most stable and supportive for married couples, offering grounded energy and long-term emotional alignment. If you want to restore trust and intimacy in your relationship, choose the south or west directions as good alternatives. “You must avoid using the northeast for the master bedroom as it might lead to misunderstandings, detachment, or emotional withdrawal,” Isha says. Apart from the ideal directions, you can also follow some Vastu remedies to attract love and family peace.

Vastu remedies to overcome toxic relationships

Therapy and communication are key to fixing toxic dynamics. But sometimes, energetic elements like colours, crystals and even simple décor tweaks can nudge things in the right direction. The Vastu expert offers some easy tips to follow for family peace and solving relationship issues.

Colours to use in the bedroom and the living room

“You must use soft tones like light pink, cream, rose gold, peach, or pastel yellow in couples’ rooms or shared family spaces,” Isha suggests. These colours will enhance your comfort and reduce stress. Isha recommends avoiding shades like dark red, black, and grey, as they are associated with negative emotions.

Crystals and home décor elements for peace at home

According to Isha, placing rose quartz in the southwest corner of your home invites emotional healing and trust. You can also keep a pair of symbols like swans, elephants, or couple-related figurines in the same zone to enhance love. Isha suggests couples avoid placing single items or solitary artworks in their bedroom. You must also remove sharp, metallic décor items or mirrors that face the bed, as they might lead to restlessness and disrupted sleep. Using elements like incense, sound, and light can help cleanse everyone’s aura at home.

Isha suggests burning sandalwood or rose-scented incense in the evening in the northwest or southwest to calm conflicting energy. You must also be mindful of the lights you use in your home. “Use warm yellow or soft white lights instead of white tube lights in bedrooms or family zones to promote harmony,” Isha recommends. There’s nothing better than using calming sounds to cleanse your relationship with your partner and family members. Isha suggests using soft bells or wind chimes in the northwest to activate gentle communication. You can also play mantras or calming instrumental music in the background to reset energy during tense times.
