Are you often tired or mentally exhausted even on a relaxed day? Do you feel uneasy or irritated at home when you should be feeling comfortable? The problem is not your screen time as much as it is the space you live in. According to Vastu Shastra, if your home has many digital gadgets and other electronic devices, you can become mentally overstimulated. This can further interfere with your work life and personal relationships. But some simple Vastu tips and interior changes can help you with your digital detox.

We asked astrologer and Vastu consultant Richa Pathak about the placement of electronic items and other remedies. Here’s what she suggests.

Electronic devices activate agni (fire) and vayu (air) elements, according to Richa Pathak. While most of our daily work requires such devices, keeping electronic items in resting zones can affect our mental peace. “This is why gadgets placed randomly across the home often lead to anxiety, disturbed sleep, headaches, or constant mental chatter,” Richa says. But you don’t have to reject technology altogether. In Vastu, you have to place gadgets consciously to practise digital detox.

Ideal placement of charging sockets and gadgets

Do you have charging sockets or gadgets placed in every corner of your home? Richa suggests keeping them in the Southeast or Northwest zones. In Vastu Shastra, the Southeast is the zone of fire and electricity, and it can safely accommodate chargers, power strips, and electronic hubs. “The Northwest zone supports movement and activity, making it suitable for laptops and work devices,” Richa says.

Avoid placing charging points and gadgets near the headboard of your bed. The bedroom is a place of rest, so you should avoid keeping routers, work devices, TVs or multiple chargers there. This can overstimulate you, leading to disturbed sleep or insomnia. “You should not sleep while keeping phones, earphones, or any other gadget under your pillow or beside you,” Richa suggests. Placing gadgets in the right spots will calm your mind and improve your mood.

Apart from the bedroom, you should avoid keeping gadgets in the Northeast zone of your home. “This is the zone of clarity, intuition, and mental peace. Keeping heavy electronics here disturbs inner balance and increases overthinking,” Richa says. You should keep these spaces light, uncluttered, and quiet.

Vastu-approved ideal directions to place mirrors at home for digital detox

Are you wondering how mirrors impact your mood or health? In Vastu, mirrors amplify energy. “When they reflect screens, routers, or charging points, the stimulation in that room quietly multiplies,” Richa says. This effect is the strongest when mirrors reflect your bed, phone, TV, or laptop. This further overstimulates your subconscious mind, leading to vivid dreams, restlessness, or tired mornings.

So, how can you fix the issue if you can’t shift your mirror or gadget placement? Richa suggests covering the mirror with a cloth at night. Once you do this, you will experience better sleep quality. But fixing the mirror placement isn’t enough. You should also calm your mind before going to bed.

Vastu remedies to calm your mind before sleeping

After a hectic day, your body needs grounding to help you sleep without unnecessary thoughts. If you can’t calm your mind, here are some Vastu remedies Richa suggests to help you shift to a restful state:

  • Keep rock salt lamps to neutralise excess fire energy.
  • Place brass or copper lamps for stability.
  • Turn on soft yellow lights to signal your brain to slow down.
  • Keep an amethyst crystal beside your pillow for mental calmness.
  • Place a moonstone for emotional balance.
  • Keep a selenite crystal to boost mental peace.

These elements aren’t magical fixes. “They help reduce mental noise, especially when kept near sleeping areas,” Richa says. But what if you can’t keep electronic gadgets, especially your phone, out of reach while sleeping? Are there any specific Vastu remedies to balance EMF (electromagnetic field) exposure from gadgets?

Balancing EMF through natural Vastu remedies

“You can’t balance EMF, you can only ground it,” Richa says. Introduce more natural elements into your home, including earthen décor, wooden furniture, indoor plants, and copper objects. “Grounding your space with such elements will stabilise your body’s response to constant signals,” Richa Pathak says. Follow this Vastu approach for a digital detox to improve your focus, gain mental clarity, and stay refreshed.

You can also keep certain indoor plants and crystals to energise your home with positivity.

Indoor plants to keep in the East or North zone of the home

  • Snake plant: It absorbs stress and improves air quality.
  • Peace Lily plant: It calms emotional turbulence.
  • Areca Palm plant: It balances heavy indoor energy.
  • Money plant: It supports flow and freshness.

Crystals to keep at home

Richa suggests keeping crystals, including black tourmaline or smoky quartz, near work desks. It will absorb energetic overload. Clean the crystals regularly, as they perform best when properly charged and treated with respect.
