Move over, Taj Mahal and Gateway of India — there’s a new landmark in town that people can’t stop gushing over. It’s not a place, and it’s definitely not a centuries-old monument. But recently, this iconic building bagged the ‘Most Photographed Structure’ label. Do you know what it is?

Shah Rukh Khan’s Mannat: From being his dream home to a landmark

According to NDTV, Shah Rukh Khan’s sea-facing mansion in Mumbai, Mannat, is the third most photographed structure after the Taj Mahal and the Gateway of India. The luxury mansion is not a mere building; it’s standing evidence of SRK’s rise to stardom. For Shah Rukh Khan’s fans and Bollywood enthusiasts, a visit to Mumbai is incomplete without glancing at Mannat. Moreover, they hope to catch a glimpse of their beloved superstar or just his signature wave from his balcony. And because that happens occasionally, the fans are happy getting clicked outside SRK’s home. But do you know how Mannat became the landmark we know today?

The compelling story behind Mannat’s existence

While Mannat’s grandeur has appealed to fans worldwide, it’s the story associated with the mansion that speaks to them. Built in 1914, Mannat was initially a bungalow named Villa Vienna, owned by Nariman Dubash. In 1991, Shah Rukh Khan was shooting the song Chaand Taare for the movie Yes Boss outside Villa Vienna. The song is known to be SRK’s manifestation mantra for love and success. But do you know it also gave him a bizarre experience that changed his life?

When he was awestruck by the sight of the lavish bungalow in Bandra, he knew he had to buy it. SRK went to have a closer look at the building but was shooed away by the guards. And that’s when he decided to make it his home. So, after much negotiation, he bought Villa Vienna for ₹13.32 crore in 2001. SRK and his wife Gauri Khan later renamed it Mannat. Being an interior designer, Gauri worked her charm on the building’s aesthetics and converted it into a luxury six-storey mansion. However, recent news reveals that SRK and family are temporarily moving out of their beloved home to get it renovated.

Shah Rukh Khan’s new home

Just three kilometres away from Mannat, SRK is now shifting to Puja Casa in the Pali Hill area in Khar, South Mumbai. Puja Casa is a luxury duplex apartment. While the actor’s new home is half the size of Mannat, Puja Casa boasts stunning interiors and a feasible location. The Bhagnanis, including filmmaker Vashu Bhagnani and his children, actor-filmmaker Jackky Bhagnani and producer Deepshikha Deshmukh, co-own the scenic apartment. SRK and his family will stay at their new residence for the next three years while their home is revamped. The Pali Hill area is a well-known place in Mumbai as it is also home to other famous Bollywood stars, including Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan.
