Watching your husband and the father of your child win is a great feeling. Imagine being at a stadium watching your husband make history and just cheering for him with your son by your side. But soon, this happy moment turns into a worrying experience, just because a bunch of internet trolls decided to give their unwarranted opinion. This is what happened with Sanjana Ganesan and Jasprit Bumrah after yesterday’s IPL match between Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants.

“Our son is not your topic of entertainment”

In the IPL match between Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants, Jasprit Bumrah created history by becoming the highest wicket-taker for his team, Mumbai Indians. Bumrah’s wife, Sanjana Ganesan, was also present with their son Angad to celebrate this victory. As Bumrah scored a wicket, cameras soon turned to Sanjana and Angad to record their reactions. While Sanjana was clapping and cheering, their son, who is only one and a half years old, was seen sitting quietly. And any sane person would know that’s what kids do. They laugh and cry when they want to. Nothing you do can change that. Plus, toddlers don’t have a care in the world and aren’t bothered about their fathers creating any sort of records. But this is quite hard for internet trolls to understand.
As soon as the cameraman captured Angad sitting pensively, the video started to take the rounds on the internet, and people started commenting that Angad looked depressed and traumatised. This got so loud that Sanjana had to break her silence and put an Instagram story shutting down these trolls. “Our son is not your topic of entertainment,” she wrote. Her frustration is quite evident in the Instagram story she has put up.
The internet’s obsession with unnecessary scrutiny

It’s bizarre to watch people scrutinise and put such labels on a baby who doesn’t even understand where he is or what his father does. “He is one and a half years old. Throwing around words like trauma and depression in reference to a baby says so much about who we’re becoming as a community, and it’s honestly really sad. You know NOTHING about our son, nothing about our lives, and I request you to keep your opinions online true to that.” Sanjana wrote. Jasprit Bumrah also shared the story, reiterating how disturbing and worrying it is for them.
Sanjana ended her Instagram story saying, “A little honesty and a little kindness goes a long way in today’s world.” And honestly, it’s time that we all not only understand this but also start practising it.
