Freedom of expression is meant to protect creativity and criticism, not defend bullies who refuse to grow up. Uff, bachche, I just got swept away with the social media trend of the day and watched my first ever episode of India’s Got Latent, Samay Raina’s “show” on YouTube. I thought dekhein zara what Ranveer Allahbadia has said that has everyone so angry. Big mistake! Now I need 45 business days to recover from a mega migraine. Not because I laughed too hard, but because the sound of all the forced laughter is now embedded in my brain. Aur kya hi hona tha? If you’re hearing the same “g**nd main ungli” and “g**nd maaro” one-liners and bad vagina jokes, the laughter will be forced only.

While Samay Raina should take a step back and think about his life choices (doubt he will), someone else on that panel needs to pay attention to more than just beer and biceps. Ranveer Allahbadia aka BeerBiceps stayed quiet for most of the episode. I wish he had stayed quiet throughout only because when he spoke, these are some of the gems that were showered on us:

“How long is your dick?”

I’m sure there was some context to this question that was conveniently deleted from the episode. 5-6 second ka context de dete toh maybe Allahbadia would not have looked so bad. But right now, it looks like BeerBiceps just randomly asks people about their genitals.

“2 crore in cash, you suck my dick”

Yes, there seems to be an obsession with male genitalia but that’s a topic for a medical professional, not me. This challenge was thrown at a guy advertising his homophobia in the hope of going viral. Thode se kudos to Samay and gang for not agreeing with the guy’s homophobia but Allahbadia ji ne toh mazze lene the. I have to say, I really envy men who don’t think much. When all else fails in comedy, they start cracking dick “jokes” with each other and giggle uncontrollably. Simple creatures.

“Would you rather watch your parents have s*x every day for the rest of your life or would you join in once and stop it forever?”

This was the clip that united everyone across political lines on Twitter. Oh ho, the outrage. When Samay and gang were consistently deeply offensive to women, everyone thought it was “dank” and “intelligent dark humour jo sabko nahi samajh aata”. But parents ki sex life ke baare mein joke kar diya toh FIRs are being filed. Our sanskaar is under attack! And because everyone has to run businesses and make money, their apologies and corrective action came as fast as lightning.

India’s Got Latent removed this particular clip from the episode and Ranveer Allahbadia has now apologised for it. But Samay and gang are not above using this clip on social media for views and shares. Reel abhi bhi hai on their Instagram page.

This makes me think, was this episode made in an attempt to ruin Allahbadia? If not, script deni thi na. If yes, bad luck, it’s going to take a lot more in this morally destitute country to destroy a man’s reputation.
