On August 18, comedian Hasan Minhaj tweeted something that perhaps broke millions of hearts worldwide. The Patriot Act host announced that his Netflix show was coming to an end. The widely popular show ran for 39 episodes spanning six seasons from October 2018 to June 2020. Minhaj’s content on trending cultural and political matters resonated with millions and even won him an Emmy and Peabody Award.
What a run. @patriotact has come to an end. I got to work with the best writers, producers, researchers, and animators in the game. My 2 babies were born and grew up with the show. TY to @Netflix and everyone who watched. Now it’s time to return these screens to Best Buy 😎 pic.twitter.com/4s4TrsKWe6

With Patriot Act cancelled, we’re looking back at some of the other Netflix shows that were cancelled too soon.
1. Marvel’s Luke Cage
Netflix description:
“A hoodie-wearing, unbreakable ex-con fights to clear his name and save his neighbourhood. He wasn’t looking for a fight, but the people needed a hero.”
The show ran over two seasons with a total of 26 episodes between 2016 and 2018. You can watch the entire show here.
2. Santa Clarita Diet
Netflix description:
“They’re ordinary husband and wife realtors until she undergoes a dramatic change that sends them down a road of death and destruction. In a good way.”
Starring Drew Barrymore, this offbeat show turned many heads over three seasons between 2017 and 2019. You can watch the entire show here.
3. Marvel’s Daredevil
Netflix description:
“Blinded as a young boy, Matt Murdock fights injustice by day as a lawyer and by night as the Superhero Daredevil in Hell’s Kitchen, New York City.”
With three seasons between 2015 and 2018, the cancellation of Marvel’s Daredevil was a heartbreaking moment. You can watch the entire show here.
4. Sense8
Netflix description:
“From the creators of “The Matrix” and “Babylon 5” comes this tense series in which eight people can telepathically experience each other’s lives.”
The show had a rating of 8.3 on IMDb and was one of the most popular series launched on Netflix. However, with just three seasons in three years, the series was cancelled in 2018 with its last episode airing on June 8. You can watch the entire show here.
5. Seven Seconds
Netflix description:
“The death of a 15-year-old African American boy in Jersey City sets off a police cover-up and a search for the truth.”
If you’re wondering how great this show was, here’s a fun fact – in just one season, it won Regina King a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series. Sadly, it just had that one season before it got cancelled. You can watch the entire show here.
6. The Break with Michelle Wolf
Netflix description:
“Nobody’s safe as Michelle Wolf unapologetically takes aim in this weekly topical show that blends sketches with live comedy and in-studio guests.”
This show took the bullet as one of the first talk shows to get abruptly cancelled by Netflix after just one season. You can watch the entire show here.

7. Spinning Out
Netflix description:
“A figure-skating Olympic hopeful struggles to balance love, family, and fragile mental health as her dream of winning takes a dizzying hold.”
A teen drama that appeals to adults too? Sadly, Spinning Out spun out after just one season of 10 episodes that premiered in 2020. You can watch the entire show here.
8. The OA
Netflix description:
“Seven years after vanishing from her home, a young woman returns with mysterious new abilities and recruits five strangers for a secret mission.”
Over the two seasons between 2016 and 2019, the show offered constant edge-of-the-seat intrigue and curiosity. With a third season, a lot more could have been explored. But that is not to be. You can watch the entire show here.
9. American Vandal
Netflix description:
“In the wake of their first documentary’s success, Peter and Sam seek a new case and settle on a stomach-churning mystery at a Washington High School.”
When you look at crime dramas, this is not the kind of show you would expect in the genre. Yet, with its offbeat humour, it became one of the most sought-after comedies in just two seasons before it got cancelled. The show had 16 episodes between 2017 and 2018. You can watch the entire show here.
10. Anne with an E
Netflix description:
“A plucky orphan whose passions run deep finds an unlikely home with a spinster and her soft-spoken bachelor brother. Based on ‘Anne of Green Gables’.”
Two years and three seasons did not do justice to this refreshing take on Anne of Green Gables. The viewers were visibly disappointed as the show got cancelled just before the two prime characters could get together. You can watch the entire show here.
