Indian history is familiar with the dark past of Punjab – the water disputes, Operation Bluestar, the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, the 1984 riots, and more. Kis baat ki keemat chuka raha hai Punjab? The official teaser for Diljit Dosanjh and Arjun Rampal’s Panjab’95 dropped on January 17 and that’s exactly what it answers. Directed by Honey Trehan, Panjab’95 recalls the efforts of the unsung hero of Punjab, Jaswant Singh Khalra.

The teaser opens with Arjun Rampal recalling the prominent issues that have brought negative attention to Punjab. It suddenly shifts to the brutal and unlawful killing of Sikhs by the Punjab police. Families lost their loved ones in this massacre and there was no one to be blamed except the government. That’s when Jaswant  Singh Khalra comes to defend the innocents and stop further killings. He goes against his family to give his all to the larger Sikh population. The teaser ends with him being tortured in prison by police officers, leaving us curious about his life’s story.

Panjab’95‘s teaser highlights the dark and gritty nature of this biopic. The cinematography and background score look equally powerful. Furthermore, there will be no cuts in the movie, as mentioned in Diljit Dosanjh’s latest post.

The movie is directed by Honey Trehan and co-written by Niren Bhatt and Utsav Maitra. Panjab’95 is set to release on February 7, 2025, in cinemas. The star cast also includes Varun Badola, Geetika Vidya Ohlan, and Kanwaljeet Singh among other notable actors.
