Band, baaja, baraat…and lots of bawaal
After a banger of a first season, one can expect the level of both dreaminess and drama to go up this season. The big, fat Indian weddings are now bigger and fatter. But they are also more broken, untruthful, and layered, to be a match made in heaven. The show picks up six months later on the timeline of the last show and things have now changed. Tara (Sobhita Dhulipala) and Adil (Jim Sarbh) are going head-to-head and Tara is not settling for peanuts in the name of a dignified divorce. Karan (Arjun Mathur) has not obtained a legal status but that hasn’t ended his misery. But as always, the two put their personal lives on the back burner and focus on keeping their wedding planning company, Made In Heaven, afloat.
With a new season comes a lot of excitement, an array of new faces, and stories that are both fresh and somehow like tales as old as time. But they get wittier, more dramatic, and so much more engaging with every passing episode. The stark contrast between Tara and Karan’s personal lives adds a fantastic angle to the show.
Colourism, casteism, physical abuse, and more in a strong storyline
Made In Heaven 2 is a really fun show to watch for the grandeur, the magnificent outfits, and the crazy rich families throwing money around. But it also hits you in the moments where it showcases colourism, casteism, physical abuse, and other issues of Indian society. While one of the brides, Sarina, goes through treatments to get lighter skin before her wedding, another bride, Adhira, faces physical abuse from her fiance and decides to cover it up with a little extra concealer. On a lighter note, you’ll also get to see a lot of gorgeous outfits (tons of Sabyasachi) throughout the show.
Every episode brings a powerhouse cast and brilliant acting
You wouldn’t expect anything mediocre from Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, and the duo makes sure to knock it out of the park with every single episode. The original cast, including Sobhita, Arjun, Jim, Vijay Raaz, Kalki, Shivani, and Shashank, are solid in their roles and have taken it up a notch with their characters this time around. But the new additions like Trinetra Haldar as Meher, a trans woman, and Mona Singh as Mrs Jauhari, the sharp and no-nonsense auditor, are like a breath of fresh air and hold you in their grasp with their performances. Apart from the main cast, we also get to see Radhika Apte, Mrunal Thakur, Neelam Kothari, Dia Mirza, Neena Gupta, Pulkit Samrat, Ishwak Singh, and Kashyap Harsha Shangari, in guest and supporting roles.
Made In Heaven Season 2 is perfect for a weekend binge because you won’t be able to stop at just one episode. Streaming now on Amazon Prime Video.
