Khakee: The Bengal Chapter review: A well-directed yet predictable crime series
Shankar Baruah aka Bagha is a fierce criminal leading Kolkata’s underworld. Drug smuggling, selling fake liquor, kidnapping, political assassinations, you name a crime and Bagha is the mastermind behind it. Backed by corrupt politicians like Barun Roy, he easily escapes punishment. However, things change when two of his gang members kill the respected IPS Saptarshi Sinha. Taking over the charge, IPS Arjun Maitra leads the investigation to get justice for IPS Sinha and hunt down Bagha. Will he succeed in arresting the most notorious gangster? Will he make Kolkata corruption-free or leave it under Bagha’s terror?
The show is packed with remarkable direction, background music and a star-studded cast. Khakee: The Bengal Chapter is a high-stakes drama that will keep you on edge with its gory action scenes. However, the series doesn’t live up to the hype its gripping trailer created. The story soon becomes quite predictable, reflecting the weak writing. While the series misses the ‘wow factor’, it promises an engaging watch. The terrific action scenes and noteworthy acting compensate for the average plot.

The brilliant cast of Khakee: The Bengal Chapter
The series, though fictional, feels strikingly real and raw due to a powerhouse of Bengali actors. Saswata Chatterjee’s craft shines in his character Bagha as he brings the terror in his aura and acting. Jeet Madnani as IPS Arjun Maitra is a stunning cop with a no-nonsense personality. His action scenes in the series are worth every minute.
Ritwik Bhowmik’s innocence in the famous Bollywood series Bandish Bandits is loved by many. But the way he takes everyone by surprise in this series is outstanding. With raw aggression and a fiery persona, he creates an impact even as a supporting actor. Chitrangada Singh plays the opposition party leader Nibedita who lives to see a corruption-free Kolkata. Her performance is equally commendable.
Other actors including Aakanksha Singh, Mimoh Chakraborty, Shruti Das, Aadil Khan, Parambrata Chatterjee, and Prosenjit Chatterjee deliver compelling performances in supporting roles.
Can you watch Khakee: The Bengal Chapter with your family? No, the web series contains explicit violence and sexual abuse, making it unsuitable for a family watch.
