Just how far will you go to save your sibling? The official trailer for Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina starrer Jigra just dropped, and you are about to find your answer. Directed by Vasan Bala, Jigra explores the bond between Satya and her younger brother Ankur. After enduring a difficult childhood, all Satya has is her brother, and she would do anything to protect him. At one point in the trailer, she claims, “Maine kabhi nahi kahan main sahi insaan hoon, main sirf Ankur ki behen hoon.” That one dialogue perfectly encapsulates Alia Bhatt’s character.
As the trailer begins, we see a frantic Satya (Alia Bhatt) asking her brother Ankur (Vedang Raina) if he screwed up. He has been imprisoned and is being tortured in a foreign jail, possibly on charges of drug consumption, set to be electrocuted to death in three months. In a race against time, Satya fights all odds and attempts the unthinkable — to break her brother out of prison and bring him back home. At one point, she even tries to slit her wrist under the assumption her brother will be released to meet a dying relative, further highlighting her desperation to save her brother.
Jigra is Alia Bhatt’s attempt at action, and the trailer promises a thrilling ride. It is far from a happy sibling movie. Jigra is a raw, gritty and dark tale filled with challenges. The action choreography and the background score are the highlight of the trailer and perfectly capture the emotional core of the movie.
Jigra is Alia Bhatt’s first collaboration with director Vasan Balan. It is co-produced by Dharma Productions and Eternal Sunshine Productions. The film is set to release on October 11.
