It’s been just three days since Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar released, and the film has already crossed the 160 crore mark at the box office. And why not? Dhurandhar has a gritty plot helmed by a stellar cast including Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi. While the audience is jamming to the film’s impressive soundtrack, something else is keeping the fans even more engaged. Fans online have gone into detective mode to see if Dhurandhar is connected to Aditya Dhar’s directorial debut, Uri: The Surgical Strike. Here’s what Redditors said.
The intriguing character of Ranveer Singh in Dhurandhar

If you haven’t watched Dhurandhar, beware of spoilers ahead. Earlier, fans believed that Ranveer Singh’s character in Dhurandhar was based on Major Mohit Sharma. But in a recent X post, Aditya Dhar clarified that Major Mohit’s story did not inspire the movie. Moreover, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) said Dhurandhar is a work of fiction, not a biopic. In Dhurandhar, the film reveals that Ranveer’s character, who disguises himself as Hamza Ali Mazari, is actually Jaskirat Singh Rangi. The spy thriller portrays Jaskirat as a convict who finds his life’s purpose through a crucial operation against Pakistan. But as soon as the name appeared on the screen, it rang a bell inside the audience’s minds. Where have we heard the name before?

According to several Redditors, Jaskirat Singh Rangi is the sole thread connecting Ranveer’s Dhurandhar to Vicky Kaushal’s Uri: The Surgical Strike. But how? “I came back from watching Dhurandhar and couldn’t shake off a couple of similarities with Uri. The “Yeh naya Hindustan hai, ghar me ghusega bhi aur maarega bhi” line shows up again, almost like a direct callback. And then there’s the name Jaskirat Singh Rangi, Kirti Kulhari mentions in URI. Ranveer’s character in Dhurandhar has the exact same name,” a Redditor shared.
Turns out, in Uri: The Surgical Strike, there’s a short scene where Kriti Kulhari’s character reveals that she is the wife of Captain Jaskirat Singh Rangi. She also shares that he died in the Naushera sector ambush. In Uri: The Surgical Strike, Jaskirat was a soldier, unlike Ranveer’s character, who is a prisoner. But another Redditor came up with an interesting theory. “Well tbh in the trailer for the second part shown at the end of the movie, he was wearing an air force badge with a T-shirt given to trainees at the forces, maybe it could be he married her there but then it was posed as he was martyred so they could send him on a mission, all is just a speculation, I am not believing this totally but it would be fun to see them connect,” they shared.
The connected timelines of Dhurandhar and Uri: The Surgical Strike
Fans also came up with a unique detail about the surprising timelines of both movies. “Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019 film): the events depicted in the movie are set in 2016. Specifically, the story is based on the real-life Indian Army’s surgical strikes across the Line of Control, which took place on the night of 28-29 September 2016, in retaliation to the Uri terror attack that occurred on 18 September 2016. Dhurandhar: the story of Dhurandhar is set in the year 2000. It is reportedly based on the life and exploits of a legendary Indian intelligence officer, with the main events taking place around the turn of the millennium, specifically in 2000-2001. Very much a possibility,” another Redditor noted.
So, if all these fan theories are true, will we see Jaskirat Singh Rangi’s shift from a convict to a determined spy agent? Will this make Dhurandhar a spectacular prequel to Uri: The Surgical Strike? Or will Dhurandhar‘s second part reveal something else entirely? Stay tuned as Dhurandhar 2 is set to release on March 19, 2026. Till then, head to the theatres to watch Dhurandhar.
