Since the day my favourite Karan Johar announced his new show Call Me Bae, I have been waiting patiently to see what he’s cooking this time. With Ananya Panday playing herself and other characters, which are too many for me to remember, I sat and finished it in one day. Here’s my Call Me Bae review and what I thought of it. Don’t worry, your Aunty doesn’t give any spoilers.

1. Ananya can act, period.

Dekho bachche, not everyone grows up to be the intense Sanjay Leela Bhansali actor. Sure, people launched by KJO, like Alia, made it to the list, but that doesn’t mean others don’t have talent. I see Ananya’s potential, and I recognised it ever since I watched Kho Gayye Hum Kahan. You folks are too mean to the girl. She played the role with so much originality that I couldn’t differentiate between her reel and real personality. Keep up, bachche.

2. Rich or broke, silk and feathers are always the right choice!

The thing about rich people is that no matter if they are living in an aalishaan mahal or a bunk-sharing hostel, they will never wear poor people’s fabric. And if it’s a Karan Johar production, you can forget about cotton and polyester. Bella dressed in silk sleepwear with feathers on the sleeves while standing on a dirty and shared balcony was peak South Delhi girl behaviour, and I approve!

3. The music is such a vibe

I have been vibing to all sorts of Gen Z music lately, and Call Me Bae had me grooving, beta ji! I toh love the focus on aesthetic soundtracks to match the timeline of the story—a genius idea. BRB, I’m updating my YouTube playlist. What a wow!

4. Vir Das plays the realest person in the show

You will love Ananya’s role, or you might not; it doesn’t bother me. But one character I really liked was Vir Das’s Satyajit Sen. Mansplainer, toxic, no filter mouth, only cares about himself and can step on anyone to be successful — Satyajit was the only real corporate person in the entire show.

5. There are so many cameos, I lost count

Okay, okay, I’m not giving any spoilers. And to be honest, I have forgotten half of the cameos in the show. But one thing I can tell for sure is that there are plenty of cameos, and you wouldn’t be expecting them. Now, go binge-watch and tell me your favourite ones in the comments below.
