February is Valentine’s month, but we all know that. With all the heart balloons and couple discounts floating around, the theme is hard to miss. But conventional, romantic love isn’t all that the month of love should be about. Why celebrate love only on one day when you can do that the whole month with a special calendar for February 2020?
Don’t get us wrong, we don’t mean spend the entire month trying to please your partner or swiping on dating apps. We mean celebrate love in every form possible, in every relationship in your life. Whether it’s something small like leaving a love note on your partner’s bedside, or something big like cooking your mom’s favourite meal as a surprise, there are so many ways to celebrate love. Here are a few of our picks for this month.
1. Plan a picnic date
The weather in February is great to spend the day outside. Pick a spot to plan a relaxed, day-long picnic with that special someone. This can even be a fun family activity, if that’s what you want to do.
2. Call an old friend
Over the years, we tend to lose touch with friends, even those we considered closest to us. Pick a day to call one friend like this and catch up. Even if you don’t have their number, there are so many ways to get in touch now. Find them on social media or drop them an email.
3. Plan a movie night with your siblings
We don’t make plans to meet our siblings very often. We generally take it for granted that they’re always there at family gatherings. But if you and your siblings live in the same city, plan a movie and dinner night with them and catch up. It’ll be great fun talking about the whole family without them being around.
4. Light a candle on the dinner table
With busy schedules and the fatigue of the day bearing down, people often combine dinner with other activities, like watching TV or catching up on social media. And that’s no fun. Choose a day in the month to light a candle on the dinner table and set the mood for a dinner date at home. It’s something you and your partner will remember for a long time, as a day when you chose to celebrate love without waiting for an occasion.
5. Make a card for your parents
This will be one major throwback. Remember when you used to make funny cards for your parents as a child? They used to love them and truly cherish them. Just like that, make a super cute card like the ones you made as a kid and watch their faces light up. This makes for a great surprise for them from their super busy children who are always in a rush.
6. Write a list of things you love about yourself
The month of love isn’t only about doing something for others. It’s also about showing some love to yourself. Apart from the regular self-care that you would do, take out a few minutes to write a list of things you love about yourself. Write it with the aim that this is something you will refer to on bad days, just to feel a little better.
7. Spend an extra few minutes playing with your kids or your pets
Children and pets – the two members of your family who are unaffected by the stresses that you feel every day. That’s why they’re also the perfect stress busters. Set aside a day in the month to show some extra love to your kids and/or your pets, and play with them, without screens, for an extra 30 minutes. They’ll love it, you’ll love it, and everyone goes to bed happier.
8. Make the right colour of chai
Who doesn’t love a good cup of chai or coffee? For all of us, good in this case means the right colour. Whether it’s for your partner or for yourself, plan a teatime treat on the weekend with the perfect pick-me-up. The sense of satisfaction is unmatched.
There’s so much more you can do to celebrate love this month. But don’t worry, we’re not leaving you to figure it yourself. We’ve planned the whole month for you so that you can do something small for your loved ones or for yourself and live up to the true meaning of love.
