“I do not wish to see a citrus colour ever again,” says Penelope Featherington grumpily. As an avid fan of the Bridgerton series, I do not wish to see her fluffing around in another yellow floral gown either. For the past two seasons, she has been a sunflower, overshadowed by her family and friends. Be it her mama’s influence on what she wears or her crush’s opinion on never courting her, she’s been a side character for far too long. Not anymore! Penelope Featherington gets a much-deserved glow-up, and it looks like she is ready to overtake any diamond of the season. Here’s everything I loved about Bridgerton Season 3 feat. Penelope’s makeover.
Thank God and the costume designers for giving her a new wardrobe
First things first, Penelope is one of the most interesting characters in the Bridgerton series. From her wit to her emotional quotient, she had the potential to be the Ton’s diamond from the start. But, never mind that. We finally get to see her own it, and one of the most notable things is her wardrobe change. The girl finally ditches the citrus tones and steps into more flattering blues, deeper greens, romantic ivories and more. It’s a sight for sore eyes, and I’m binging this season for all those wardrobe changes.
Pen’s not a people-pleaser anymore, and I’m rooting for it
Sometimes, I can also be a people pleaser, and that thought makes me nauseous. Maybe that’s also a sad reason I like Penelope’s character so much. My bad. But this new version of Pen ain’t no people pleaser. This season, she means business, and she is so down to get it done. No more running after people or wearing what her mother tells her. It is all about doing what she wishes, which makes her character truly admirable. You go, girl!
I’m flattered by those Hollywood curls and body-fitting dresses
We have all awaited Bridgerton Season 3 to witness Penelope’s makeover, and she doesn’t disappoint. I’m so much nicer when I like how I look; don’t tell me you disagree. So, naturally, seeing Penelope in those romantic Hollywood curls, side parts, and well-fitted dresses made my heart burst with happiness. I was done with those fluffy, poofy gowns on her and looking at her in those stunning dresses was so refreshing.
She’s vulnerable and isn’t afraid to show it
One thing I love about Penelope’s character is that she never hides her vulnerability. This season, we see her embracing it, which makes for some of the most endearing moments in the series. She is honest with her suitors, especially Lord Debling. Pen doesn’t wish to pit against other women seeking his attention and doesn’t want to lead him on by being someone she is not. She is also quite vulnerable and honest with Colin during their late-night meet-ups (no spoilers).
I love that she’s not afraid to get down and dirty
Well, if you don’t want any spoilers, move on. But if you don’t mind dipping your toe in what this season brings you, read on. I love how Penelope isn’t afraid of getting down-and-dirty with a suitor or two. She isn’t the hush-hush girl that Daphne was during her first physical encounter with Simon. Or Kate who fled the scene every time Anthony gave her a passing touch. Penelope brings steam to the screen with her rather daring display of affection, and you are not ready for it. I approve!
So, whether you like this season or not, you will fall in love with Penelope’s character. It is not just her head-turning gowns and glowing skin; it is about how she comes to terms with who she is and embraces it unapologetically.
