Netflix has dropped the trailer of the much-awaited film Aap Jaisa Koi, co-produced by Karan Johar. The movie is set to release on July 11, 2025, and follows a mushy tale exploring baraabari wala pyaar between the characters of R. Madhavan and Fatima Sana Shaikh. Aap Jaisa Koi Trailer: A heartwarming, coming-of-age love story

The trailer opens with Shrirenu Tripathi (R. Madhavan), a Sanskrit professor, getting a decent photo for his biodata. Being an honest man, he writes 42 adjacent to the age column, despite his mother’s disapproval. He finally gets his match made in heaven: a 32-year-old French professor, Madhu Bose (Fatima Sana Shaikh). This kickstarts their magical love story, defying restricted age norms, but as they take their old-school romance forward to share a kiss, something holds Shrirenu back. Coming from a conservative family, his father is against ‘allowing freedom to women’. Will Shrirenu, a mature adult, choose love or fall to patriarchy’s feet? Will Madhu get a chance at love without settling for the bare minimum?

The movie’s trailer is giving Karan Johar’s earlier Bollywood hit, Rocky Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, vibes. But Aap Jaisa Koi follows mellower tones, as Shrirenu is a submissive character, torn between personal choices and society’s conditioning. Similarly, Madhu walks with a quiet charm while being assertive in asking for what she deserves. The movie stresses equality in a romantic relationship, where you get love in return for love. Aap Jaisa Koi follows the frustration of still facing gender bias and patriarchal norms in the 21st century. How many stories will it take us to overcome such rigidity?

Directed by Vivek Soni, the movie boasts talented producers including Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra. The film also stars Ayesha Raza, Manish Chaudhary, Namit Das, and Beena Banerjee in supporting roles.
