If you thought Bollywood reserved its drama for the big screen, 2025 gave us some insane controversies off the screen. This year, the industry delivered plot twists wilder than any suspense thriller climax. From moments that made us go ‘WHAT?!’ in confusion to comments that creeped us out, 2025 was full of controversies you won’t even find in the best fiction. So, here’s your recap of the biggest Bollywood controversies of 2025.
Badshah, Dua Lipa, and some baby-making

Shoot your shot, they say, but Badshah took it quite too far. It began with a casual post mentioning Dua Lipa, followed by a fan asking whether a collab was coming. Badshah, in peak main-character energy, replied that he’d “rather make babies with her, bro.” The internet did what the internet does best: spiralled. Suddenly, he wasn’t India’s chart-topper; he was that guy making slightly creepy declarations online. Badshah tried explaining that it was “a compliment,” which, frankly, did not help. Memes sprouted, jokes wrote themselves, and 2025 had its first proper controversy. It actually was a crash course in “how to not compliment a woman”.
Diljit Dosanjh and the question of patriotism
This year, our Punjabi munda, Diljit Dosanjh, became the centre of a political and cultural debate. When the Sardaar Ji 3 movie trailer dropped, all hell broke loose because the film features Pakistani actor Hania Aamir. Social media immediately accused Diljit of being “un-patriotic,” and dramatic calls for boycotts followed. To add to the chaos, an old Diljit video resurfaced where he supposedly dismissed Bollywood. The clip was from 2021 and completely unrelated. But at this point, logic had left the room.
Urvashi Rautela and Daaku Maharaaj
Urvashi Rautela finds herself at the centre of controversy often. This year, she couldn’t stop bragging about Daaku Maharaaj’s 105 crore ki success, even when the movie wasn’t even a topic. When Saif Ali Khan was stabbed by an intruder in his home, the industry was understandably shaken. But when Urvashi Rautela was asked about celebrity security and responded by talking about Daaku Maharaaj ki success, diamond-studded Rolex, her mini-watch collection, and how she feels unsafe wearing expensive accessories outside now, the internet had only one reaction: Mmm… what? Moral of the story here is: read the room before mentioning your bling.
Paresh Rawal leaves Hera Pheri 3…
For Hera Pheri fans, 2025 briefly felt like the end of an era. News broke that Paresh Rawal was quitting Hera Pheri 3 due to a dispute with the production team. Then came the lawsuits, the counter-statements, the rumours… it was basically Hera Pheri level confusion but without the punchlines. And just when fans began mourning, Paresh Rawal popped back in like nothing happened, and per the latest information, the movie is in the works.
Babil Khan’s viral video
Mid-year, a video of Babil Khan crying and calling Bollywood “fake” went viral. He mentioned a few celebs being mean to him. He took down the video soon enough, but it went viral. The clip set off a wave of discussions around mental health, nepotism pressure, and the emotional toll of constant scrutiny. Nobody knows why that video was uploaded and deleted, but it was surely one of those controversies that made people think instead of troll.
The never-ending Deepika–Vanga debate

If 2025 had a single defining conversation, it was the debate around Deepika Padukone and director Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Whether it was about creative differences or the demand for an eight-hour work shift by Deepika, one thing was clear: the internet was split into Team Deepika and Team Vanga like it was an IPL final. And no, the debate hasn’t ended.
The downfall of Shaktimaan
Mukesh Khanna, aka Shaktimaan, was everywhere on social media right from the beginning of 2025. A series of comments he made on younger actors didn’t sit well with anybody. However, what actually sent the internet into a spiral was his opposition to Ranveer Singh playing Shaktimaan. He proudly declared that he’ll be returning as Shaktimaan for the present generation, and that drove the internet crazy!
Ranveer Singh’s mimicry

Ranveer Singh is known for being extra. But during promotions for Dhurandhar, a Kantara-style ritual performance he recreated did not land well. A comment he reportedly made during the act, calling a sacred “deva” a “female ghost”, sparked a cultural and religious backlash. The internet got so aggressive that Ranveer had to issue an official apology. His movie Dhurandhar also started to face trouble in the South.
Bollywood controversies of 2025 prove that the industry doesn’t need to make movies to keep us entertained!
