Let’s just say it – Bollywood hasn’t been the same without Genelia Deshmukh. Remember her infectious smile? The bubbly energy? The girl-next-door charm that somehow never felt forced? Yeah, that. After what feels like forever, she’s finally back on the big screen, and we couldn’t be more thrilled! Genelia Deshmukh is making her comeback with Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par. Directed by R.S. Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par is a spiritual sequel to the 2007 movie Taare Zameen Par.
Genelia’s last major Bollywood appearance was in the 2012 movie Tere Naal Love Hogya opposite Riteish Deshmukh. After getting married, she took a step back from the limelight to focus on her family life with Riteish. She did some cameo roles in movies like Jai Ho and Force 2, but it wasn’t until 2022 that she made a real comeback, and boy, did she do it in style.

The Marathi hit that brought her back

Before Bollywood, Marathi cinema welcomed Genelia back. In Ved, directed by hubby Riteish, Genelia played Shravani, a woman quietly yearning for love in a marriage that’s slowly falling apart. The film became a roaring success and the highest-grossing Marathi movie after Sairat. In 2023, Genelia dipped her toes back into Hindi cinema with Trial Period, where she played a single mum hiring a “trial” dad for her son. It was sweet, funny, and unexpectedly thoughtful. She actually spoke to real single parents while prepping for the role, and it showed. You could feel the effort, the empathy, and of course, the Genelia charm.
Sitaare Zameen Par

This is the moment fans have been waiting for – Genelia in a proper mainstream Bollywood film. In Sitaare Zameen Par, she stars opposite Aamir Khan, who plays a coach, training a team of specially abled players. Even though there are only a few glimpses of Genelia in the trailer, she seems promising as always.
The film is based on the Spanish hit Champions. With a release date set for June 20, 2025, it promises to be an emotional, feel-good ride, complete with sports, soul, lots of laughter, and the very charming Genelia.
