Dating in today’s world is getting tougher each day. What if your partner pretends to be the greenest flag in the initial months of dating? What if they are actually toxic AF? Girlies, you don’t need to wait months to know your boyfriend’s real personality. Poet Nayab Midha is here to help you figure out if you’re dating the right person.
In an episode of AfterHours With AAE, Nayab Midha had a candid conversation with host Bani G. Anand about feminism, relationships, and more. Nayab revealed how she used to test her boyfriend Ayush’s loyalty towards her. Here are some relationship tests she tried that might help all women out there.

“I would video-call my male friends”
Nayab has always had more male friends, she says. But she shared how this becomes a “constant problem with men who are insecure.” While talking about some of her dates, Nayab said, “They think if my girlfriend is with some other guy, then something else is going on.”
Nayab shared the times when she would be apart from her male friends and wanted to call them for a quick catch-up. To test Ayush, she said, “I would make sure that it’s a video call and see how he reacts.” This was to ensure that he didn’t have anger issues. And to her surprise, the situation didn’t bother him at all.
“I told him that I like somebody else”
Nayab Midha shared an incident where she took a unique decision to test Ayush’s temperament. She deliberately lied to him, saying, “I like somebody else and I’ve been feeling this way for a month now.” To this, Ayush calmly asked, “Okay, do you know what you want to do about it?” But Nayab instantly told him that it was just a joke. She did this because she wanted to know her boyfriend’s true personality in the dating phase itself.
Nayab believes, “When you’re dating, life is very easy. But when you get married, you have kids, and life gets tougher and tougher, anger also comes… I wanted to know beforehand. I don’t want to get married and get serious. I don’t want it to be like, by the time I’m immersed in love, then I get to know that he has anger issues.”
‘I earned more, I thought it would become a fight’
While talking about fame and relationships, Bani pointed out, “It’s not easy to be with someone who’s famous.” Nayab recounted the initial days of her fame when she feared that her boyfriend would fuss over their individual earnings. “On some days, I earned more, and even then, I would think, can this be a reason to fight?” she said. Both Bani and Nayab shared how this is a conventional issue between a majority of couples. Fortunately, this wasn’t the case in Nayab’s relationship. “Nothing makes him insecure, which is fabulous”, she added.
“He doesn’t understand my me time”
Nayab Midha feels lucky to have found someone like her partner as he doesn’t get angry over petty issues. But she shared that certain things upset him sometimes. “He doesn’t exactly get angry. But he gets upset when I don’t give enough time to him. He doesn’t understand my need for ‘me time’ at times”, she said. However, she understands his perspective and perceives these things as ‘green flags’ in him. She said, “The fact that someone sulks over wanting your time is only understandable.”
