2025 New Year resolutions – the grand promises we made to ourselves in December, only to watch them unravel like a bad Bollywood plot twist by mid-January. If you’ve already abandoned your goals even though it’s just the first week of January, fret not. You’re in good company. But let’s figure out how to actually stick to your resolutions this year.

1. Chill, yaar! Stop beating yourself up

Did you swear to wake up at 5 am for yoga but ended up hitting snooze until 9? Relax. Even Virat Kohli doesn’t smash a century every match. Laugh about it, let it go, and remind yourself that you don’t have to wake up strictly at 5 am every day, even 8 am is good enough on some days.

2. Check if your goals are OTT

“Go to the gym every day” or “Give up meat forever” sounds great on paper, but in real life? Nahi hoga! Instead, set smaller, achievable goals. Try “exercise thrice a week” or “eat dal chawal instead of biryani once a week.” Slow and steady wins the race, right?

3. Do a quick jugaad

how to keep new year resolutions

If Plan A fails, it’s time for Plan B or maybe Plan C. Can’t commit to long gym hours? Just dance to Bollywood tracks at home or go for a walk while you annoy your boo on the phone. You don’t have to look like Malaika Arora, you just have to keep moving your body a little every day.

4. Reward yourself

Kept your resolution for a week? Bravo! Treat yourself to something fun, like pani puri at your favourite street cart or a weekend binge of your guilty-pleasure show. A little bribery never hurt anyone.

5. Get an accountability buddy

Ask a friend or sibling to join you in your goals. Want to cook healthier meals? Call up your foodie bestie and try out new recipes together (bonus points if you can recreate your mum’s paranthe with less ghee). It’s always easier to stick to resolutions when someone’s got your back.

6. Adopt a ‘thoda adjust kar lo’ attitude

Life’s unpredictable, so be flexible. If you make progress, great. If not, there’s always another Monday. Don’t abandon your goals just because you missed a day or two or even more.

7. Make resolutions that feel less like chores

Hate running? Try badminton with that cute guy in your building. Don’t like plain salads? Desi-fy it with a sprinkle of chaat masala and some crispy papad. Find ways to make your goals fun, not tedious.

8. You’re already awesome, okay?

Your worth doesn’t depend on how many kilos you lose or how many books you read. Whether you keep your resolutions or not, you’re already doing great! Be kind to yourself because let’s face it, even Karan Johar movies have room for improvement, but we still love them.

If your 2025 New Year resolutions have gone off-track, don’t stress. Life isn’t about checking boxes; it’s about trying, learning, and enjoying the ride. So, grab a chai, pat yourself on the back, and move on.
