Sodium bicarbonate, or more commonly known as baking soda, has been an integral part of our domestic lives, with its benefits being simply innumerable. Whether it’s effortlessly polishing your silverware or help clean the greasy stains out of your oven, baking soda has definitely made our lives a lot easier. And the list only goes on.

1. Combating Furniture Stains

  • Make a mixture of lemon juice and baking soda
  • Use a damp sponge across the affected areas and gently scrub
  • Use a clean cloth to clean off the polish

2. Rejuvenate Your Skin

  • Add half a cup of baking soda to your bath water, which helps in neutralizing the acids present on the skin
  • Or make a past of baking soda and water
  • Apply the water based paste using a soft cotton pad to combat body odor and dark patches on the armpits

3. Baking soda and its exfoliating qualities

  • Thoroughly scrub your face and body with a paste of baking soda and water in the ration of 3:1
  • Rub in a gentle circular motion for the best results
  • Rinse clean with a dry towel
  • Repeat a few times a week to help combat acne and other blemishes

4. Deodorizing Bedding/Toys

  • Sprinkle some baking soda over pets’ bedding or cloth-based toys
  • Let it rest for around 15-20 minutes (or longer for stronger odours)
  • Use a vacuum cleaner over the fabric

5. Treating Insect Bites/Itchy Spots

  • Make a paste using baking soda and water
  • Apply it over the bitten areas and affected skin
  • If the itching continues, dust your skin with some baking soda, after a bath or a shower

6. Clean Brushes or Combs

  • Soak your brushes or combs in a tub of warm water and baking soda for 10-20 mins
  • Rinse thoroughly

7. Clean Greasy/ Oily Spots

  • Take a tub of baking soda, a brush and some water
  • Dampen the brush and sprinkle baking soda on the greasy/oily spot
  • Scrub till throughly cleaned

8. Clean Cars

  •  Use a baking soda solution of 1/4 cup of baking soda in 1 quart of warm water
  • Using a sponge or a soft cloth, rub against the grimy spots, tree sap, bugs and tar
